I won't bore you with too many details. I'm a heavy, but functional (no blackouts anymore... have full-time job, etc.), drinker who really wants to be done with it. I read "The End Of My Addiction" and have been trying to do as much self-educating as possible about using Bac. I received my Bac on April 20 and began self-treatment that day. Now, I'm usually VERY tolerant of substances and being my typically over gung-ho self ended up taking 100 mg. the first day on Bac (stupid, I know) and basically my girlfriend was not pleased by my agitated, creepy behavior. Next day I went low dose (like 25 mg.) and have been only titrated up to 50-75 mg. a day since then. One thing that began occurring not long after beginning the Bac was basically constant diarreah preceded by abdominal cramps. Besides the alcohol, my diet is very healthy and includes little meat and a lot of organic veggies. Yesterday, at work, around 1 pm, I noticed that I had broken out into a pretty good case of skin hives. When I got home I could see that they were almost full body, but thankfully, excluding my face. Not itchy or anything and no difficulty breathing, but troubling. Now it is 9 am the next day and they are still there. I just performed my new ritual of "pooping soup", but haven't had any Bac since maybe noon, yesterday. The other symptoms I've had on Bac are basically a little dizziness and such but nothing too bad at the lower divided doses. Anyway, my fear is that I'm actually allergic to the stuff and that my SE won't go away with continued use. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you so much!

Hi folks...
I won't bore you with too many details. I'm a heavy, but functional (no blackouts anymore... have full-time job, etc.), drinker who really wants to be done with it. Hiya, Better. Welcome! I'm about to give you a bit of a lecture...I am wont to do that. don't take it personally. And rest assured I've taken too much, and too little. Still.
hmmm. Dude. come on now. 100mg...then 25mg...then some more...then none.
I'm not sure that you're allergic to bac so much as yowza! to all the rest. It takes time. It's not magic. And there is a protocol, of sorts. Which is about 20mg a week. After starting at about 5mg. There's a lot of flexibility...but not THAT much.
I've read something recently (in a biology textbook and unrelated to baclofen) about rashes that alarmed me...I can't remember what, but I think you might want to have that checked out by a doctor soon-ish.
Really.
Lecture over. Hang in there. If you decide to try this all again, after you've had the rash taken care of, I'll bump some threads for you to read, or you can just peruse around and decide which one might work for you.

Hi B&B
When you say you received your baclofen, am I right in assuming you're self-medicating and purchased the pills online? It could be as simple as teh filler in that particular brand you received. Or it could have been made in a backstreet, unlicensed factory by a bloke who thinks washing his hands after taking a dump is a luxury afforded only to people who make more than a dollar a day. Just a thought. And a rather unpleasant one, at that.."My fault, my failure, is not in the passions I have, but in my lack of control of them." Jack Kerouac

I should also add that insomnia was another big SE for me. For 3 days in a row it was like 2-4 hours a night. Reminded me of my old ADD medication days! I quit that stuff 3 years ago and am doing fine without it (learning to meditate, exercise, and good nutrition helped a LOT with that... wish it had with the booze... helped a bit, but that's why I'm here. Just as a tip to anyone out there, regular meditation practice had a fairly quick effect on "the day after" effects of alcohol. I definitely noticed a decrease in "the shakes" and I have been super-conscious of those for a long time, for a reason. I have a diagnosed motion disorder since childhood... Essential Tremor... father, sister and one child have it also...that is one of the reasons I became such a drinker. When I was a kid, I became self-conscious as people were always asking me why I was so nervous. Alcohol is one of the few things that relieves the tremor, but a lot of folks with ET become alcoholics because of the vicious cycle that comes from the exaggerated tremor... combo of ET and withdrawal... on the day after drinking. It used to be really horrible. Sometimes I couldn't even lift a glass of water to my mouth without spilling it. Couldn't feed myself. I'm super grateful that it's subsided a bit.)http://baclofenforalcoholism.com

There was a programme on TV last year saying that customs seize a large number of fake pills ordered via the internet all the time. Don't know if it's scaremongering or true, but there are always counterfeits in all lines of trade which is one reason I chased up and was very keen to get a genuine prescription, from a genuine Dr in the UK.
By the way I had a terrible reaction with antabuse I bought online 8 years or so ago, built up over weeks and I ended up with a rash, aching limbs and having a fit in the Drs surgery - no I hadn't had a drink. Still do not know to this day whether it was my perfume, something in the AB or it was actually something completely different.I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.
Drank within safe limits for almost 2 years

Hi Better, anything that says "not for human consumption" does tend to put me off as well, guess Im just picky that way:H. I have been buying from 4nrx UK and not had a problem but Im now thinking of maybe trying River, I keep on hearing good things about them. Just to see if there is a difference
I have just checked out there website and 300 x 10mg baclofen Lioresal costs $99.99 or ?61.82 thats at River
4nrx uk is Pacifen 300 x 10mg ?39.57 they also give a discount when you are a return customer
Lioresal 300 x 10mg ?243.27
Bloody hell that is a massive difference in price.
and also does anyone know the difference between Lioresal and Pacifen??

I remember a case last year of the UK NHS being sold fake drugs and passing them on as real. So it doesn't always matter if you get a prescription or buy online, sometimes you're gonna get stuck with a wrong 'un!

how do you do those quotes for flufcks sake will someone tell me or is a secret
Also, when you are writing a response to someone, there is a button on the toolbar (where the font is), just to the left of the # button. If you "select" text with your mouse, as though you were going to copy it, and push that button, it also puts whatever text you have selected in a quote.Ginger

[QUOTE=GingerDust;1309983]There is a "Quote" button at the bottom right of every post (just to the right of the "Edit" button). If you select it, it quotes the entire post, along with who said it. You can delete whatever text you don't want to respond to
