    Baclofen-guide from world’s-leading French doctors

    Hi @all

The member ?otter? is working on the translation, he told me in a private message on 06-13-2012. I just asked him now in a private message how things are going on. I hope he we will give us some news soon.

    @Al Fiend

For titrating down they just say to do it in 10 to 15 days. Sorry, no more information than that.

      English translation

      Hi Don

I have made a first translation but it is too big to post here. I need to go through it and make sure the translation is accurate so I will send it to some people who I hope will proof read it. Then I will put it on a link so it can be distributed.

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

        Hi guys

I speak French too, but am a little rusty! I majored in French 30 years ago at Uni and don't use it very often. Having said that, I'm sure I could translate this if need be. Let me know if you need help.

        Cheers

          Hi,

I have finished a draft translation but there are a few words and sentences I need to work on and am getting some help with them. A few more days and it will be done.

If anyone wants a copy of it now, with a few sentences to go, please feel free to email or pm me.

I have put the English version on the Baclofenuk site with its own page. It can be downloaded. Let me know if there are any problems with it. I was amazed when I read it. It is exactly the experience I have had with Baclofen and I like the part about psycho social issues...very intereting, a real "must read" for everyone with any interest in alcoholism.

Actually I don't think that is it although it's a good read and someone goes against what Dr. L says about 20mg titration.
I don't see any other links on that page or in the forum.
                Thanks

No, that's the one. For anyone looking for it, it's in the "Prescribing Guide" near the top on the left hand side.

Thank you Otter for all of the work you did. Much easier to read than the google translate version.

Haven't finished it, but one line stands out: "It is curious and remarkable, however, that many patients continue their treatment in spite of suffering from some potentially serious side effects."

Some people still don't get it. We are dying. For a lot of us, "some potentially serious side effects" are much preferred over "pursue it into the gates of insanity and death."

It misses a lot of the SE's unfortunately. Some that are listed as known SE's for that drug.

                      Baclofen-guide from world’s-leading French doctors

I have managed to embed it in the Baclofen uk site so it can be read or downloaded there.

It is more for doctors because it gives them professional guidance rather than having to figure it out for themselves from coming here or experimenting on their own patients. I think it is a very important development. Hopefully it will allow people to get their doctors to start prescribing, knowing what they are doing, being protected legally, being able to tell patients what the risks are etc. No excuses.

I particularly liked the section about psycho-social issues even when sobriety is achieved and the idea that it is not necessarily abstinence that is being sought. I also like the idea that it is up to doctors to start thinking about creating opportunities for recovering beyond just the drugs and that it is the "entourage", family and friends that need to help in the recovery.

I agree Cos but the SE's are such an individual thing it would be hard in a brief this size to cover all of them.

I really wish they would publish an indepth report of their combined experiences with all SE's and numbers and, well, everything, but this is still a very cool document. It's not one ex-alcoholic or one psychiatrist but a group of a major country's doctors presenting what they know from experience.

And France is (or soon will be) beginning a double blind placebo controlled study of HDB that I hope will turn the world of alcohol treatment upside down.

Man, wait til Otter has to translate that one for us!

                          Hi COSGringo

If there are some SE?s not mentioned, that means just that they didn?t meet them. All the possible SE?s one COULD meet you can find at the official patient information leaflet of the manufacturer (Novartis)

                            Hi, Don.

Thank you so much for reaching out to MWO, and to me specifically.

It is a beautiful thing that there are people who are willing to cross boundaries (of all kinds) in order to share information. Not many people would take the time, though. It is very much appreciated that you did and continue to do so.

I apologize for my overdue response and expression of gratitude. I hope you'll continue to spend time here!

                            Thanks, Don.
