    Baclofen-guide from world’s-leading French doctors

    Hello @all

Sorry, my English is not so good. I am a member of the German Baclofen-Forum. I found a very good Baclofen-guide from world?s-leading French doctors and therapists using Baclofen in therapy against alcoholism. They collected their experiences over several years with 1?500 (!) patients. You will find answers to almost every question you have about this stuff.

I translated the paper from French to German. So if there is somebody speaking one of these two languages, he could translate it to English. I am sure that it would be very helpful to your community. I can?t actually post the links to the German and French versions because my post count must be 2 or greater. I will post these links in one of my next postings

    Sincerely yours DonQuixote

Thank you so much, DonQuixote. This is great.

So, OK guys, I've skimmed through this and it's pretty darned good. Doesn't tell us all that much that we don't seem to already know, though, it just makes a lot of it "official." More than anything, it's designed for physicians, including a waiver for the patient to sign--so it could be useful in approaching your MD.

It basically says titrate up based on personal feeling, gives some time frames for staying at the switch dose, and throws its hands up in the air when it comes to titrating back down. That part is more like a "we don't have any kind of standard on this one yet." But does outline some general guidelines for coming down post-switch. Then there's a whole bunch on side effects.

If anyone's French (or German) is really good and this wouldn't take them much time, please feel free to go for it (and let me know).

It would take me several days at least to fully, accurately translate it, but I will if folks are interested (again, please let me know).

        Cheers

          DonQuixote,

I have been reading your forum for a couple of months, and you are doing a great job. Thank you for all of the information you are putting out. I am also registered on your forum as Poink. I don't speak or read either German or French, but use Google Translate. It is very clunky, but I am usually ably to understand the main thrust of the posts. Again, Thank You.

Stuck, that's a pretty good, concise take on the report. Thanks.

Here is a link to the Google Translate version of the German Forum:Google Translate

And here is a link to the French site via Google Translate:Google Translate

The translations are pretty poor most of the time but again, most of the time you can make out the gist of the posts. The study itself is actually a pretty decent translation:Google Translate

Hi Poink, nice to meet you here

StuckinLA ist right, the paper has been initially written for doctors and therapists that want to learn about Baclofen-therapy. But it is written in a very simple style, so everybody can understand it. Sometimes google-translations are really ?ehh- funny. In this case it transforms Mr. Ameisen into Mr. Ants. That?s pretty ?correct? ?Ameisen? in German means ?Ants?

Good luck in translation wishes DonQuixote

Wow. Google Translate didn't even occur to me. Ugh.

Well, offer still stands: if anyone wants a more polished copy to take to their doc or anything, let me know.

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Hi Don Quixote

                    Thanks for the link.

I was wondering if there is any public acceptance or knowledge of Baclofen as a treatment in Germany. It has been in the press in France but there is almost nothing happening publicly in the United Kingdom. There has not been a press report or television report for years about Baclofen.

                      Hi Otter

It is little-known in Germany and used as a ?off-label-therapy?. I guess some few hundreds of doctors use it, but it?s hard to find one. The Baclofen-guide mentioned above is a very good help to convince them. In France there are many hundreds of newspaper articles and dozens of TV-shows about Baclofen. In Germany there are about a dozen of newspaper articles and one or two TV-shows. French Baclofen-Forums have 6?100 members and German ones 1?200.

I would also appreciate a translation, especially the guidelines for titrating down, whatever they do know about it.

                            Thank you Stuck and Don

OK. I'll get started on it. But I've got a ton of stuff going on right now, unfortunately, so not sure when I'll get to it... I'll start with the coming down post-switch stuff for ya' Fiend, but even that could be days.

So, I haven't looked at the Google Translate version, but I'd say give that a try until I can get around to something more polished.
