Uh on, does Bac cause gout and swollen ankles

So my feet have been a mess for about a month now. On and off again gout.
Now my wife noticed I have huge swollen ankle. I mean it's big. My knees are getting sore, too.
I hope I don't have to stop the bac.
Any ideas out there? I am trying to drink a lot of water.

News flash. Since I've had gout I started pounding back naprosyn thinking it would help the swelling and pain. My wife mentioned she had problems with it before.
I looked it up and naprosyn is a cause of edema. I've been taking it more than a week and at least about 700 mg a day.
So I will stop taking that and hopefully that will get rid of the edema. Still does not explain the chronic gout.

        COSGringo,

        Baclofen causes edema, also.

The two together, Naprosyn and Baclofen may be making it much worse.

Stop the Naprosyn and if that helps, whew!!

Otherwise, you may need to go to your doctor and have a urine check. Unfortunately, my kidneys were suffering from HDB and I had to titrate off. Not worth getting sober if I had to go on dialysis.

However, I am the only one here that I know of that had to stop HDB due to kidney issues, so take heart.

Thanks Cinders sorry- Cindi. I have a doc appt on Tuesday. I am done with the naprosyn.
I am sure the doc will be testing me like crazy since I have not been in like a year now. I get to tell him about the baclofen. That should be interesting.

Thanks Zen. I don't drink which is what is confusing me. I was exercising and taking supplements.
Diet, well I am kind of a chef so that's tough.
When this gout ever stops I going to get back on allopurinol and I am pretty sure I am safe then.
I am going to see if I can close this thread soon.
I don't want people to freak out and stay away from baclofen because of my moment of hysteria.

              Hi COS,

I am a martyr to gout as well so I sympathise. Have you stopped drinking fairly recently? I ask because, whenever I stop drinking I have a period of time where my gout gets considerably worse. I take Allopurinol daily and that works well 95 per cent of the time. It makes no difference whether I'm drinking or not but if I suddenly stop drinking it gets bad. On my last attempt at giving up alcohol I was confined to bed for nearly three weeks as my knee swelled up to twice its normal size - it was the most excruciating three weeks of my life and my GP eventually had to syringe my knee! It should pass as your body readjusts itself. In the meantime try a combination of Diclofenac, Colchicine and Solphadol - takes the edge off a bit.

                Thanks Justin.
I would say the drinking stopped about 3-4 weeks now. I did indulge for a few days in Vegas recently but I was already in my gout stage and no beer. It was not heavy drinking either.
                My diet is not perfect.
I was going to look at getting some indomethacin but I had limited success with it in the past.
                Thanks again.

I'm a bit of a discussion newbie here, so I don't know if what I am sharing here is related at all or has been discussed already. I no longer experience it, but I had an inflammation reaction I thought was related to Baclofen when I started with it. Red and puffy limbs. Anyway... Keep us posted and all the best.

Thanks for weighing in. I am going to see the doc on Tuesday. I really don't want to but I am giving in.
