Took antiabuse and got sick
I took 1/4 of a 250 tablet and was sick to my stomach and vomiting. I have had no alcohol in five days. No vinegar or anything of that nature. I had taken baclofen for anxiety, Zoloft and blood pressure meds. Not sure if those meds can cause a reaction. Has this happened to anyone else?Tags: None

Ugh! Sorry.
I don't know that it's necessarily the antabuse, xwino.
How much baclofen did you take, and how long have you been taking it? vomitous-ness can happen as a side effect of taking too much of that.
Zoloft, too, I suppose, though I don't know much about it. But if you haven't taken it before, perhaps that had some effect?
My bet is the combination, though. How are you feeling now?

I get a very bad case of the 'runs' if I take antabuse too soon after drinking alcohol, but with too soon I mean like in the next day. Are you sure you didn't take anything with hidden alcohol in it? I know you said you didn't, just trying to be helpful. Flu meds comes to mind.
Perhaps keep a full diary of everything you consume i.e. food and medicine and then try again.
It does sound odd to me as the dose you took is very small. Antabuse is quite tough on the liver though, have you ever had your liver functions tested?
Zoloft had me throwing up/nauseous for a month straight until I finally just quit it as it was too harsh on my liver in conjunction with the alcohol so perhaps your liver need some TLC like milk thistle? I would suggest another week AF before you start the AB but duh, I know how difficult that would be.
Read the Antabuse insert slip for ideas? Hippiegirl was taken off it by her doctor as she has diabetes and her sugar went off the map.
That's all I can think of, unless you simply had something bad for lunch and it was a coincidence?
Wishing you all the best.

A long time ago I had a bad reaction to AB, I'd bought it off the internet in the days before reliable internet pharmacies so never know if it really was genuine AB or something else.
In my case I was fine for first week or so, then started over a few days getting symptoms as if I'd consumed alcohol. Aching joints, temperature, flu-like symptoms, rash. Went to drs and collapsed in the waiting room, had a fit. Anyway he was convinced I'd drank alcohol on it and I hadn't.
Am told some people can be sensitive to alcohol in perfume on it but it's rare. Never got to the bottom of it, but I think it was some sort of cumulative effect and haven't touched AB since. Will never know I guess.I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.
Drank within safe limits for almost 2 years
AF date 22/07/13

I am not 100% sure about the other meds, according to everything i've read there should be no adverse interaction w/ most the drugs you've indicated you're taking. The common drugs that can cause severe adverse effects include: amprenavir, metronidzole; also- blood thinners, seizure medications & particularly phenytoin related drugs. And Isoniazid & theophylline are known to cause interactions as well... but this doesn't really apply to you.
Baclofen really shouldn't cause any interaction "in theory"--particularly b/c baclofen is metabolized by the kidney's, not the liver (which is how disulfiram (Antabuse) exerts its mode of action/adverse sensitivity to alcohol- it interferes w/ its metabolism in the liver). ALSO- BE CAREFUL OF ANY OVER THE COUNTRY DRUGS AND/OR DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS YOU MAY TAKE! These can definitely cause severe interactions.
Vomiting is considered a very severe--and in some cases a very SERIOUS--side effect of disulfiram/Antabuse if it occurs without alcohol intake, i would definitely contact your doctor.
DISULFIRAM - ORAL (Antabuse) side effects, medical uses, and drug interactions.
