Baclofen Prescribing Guide for Doctors-English Version

Keep up the good work Otter. Its heartening to see that more Doctors are prepared to put their names behind this treatment. Slowly, oh... so slowly it is getting recognition.

Hi, thanks, I think about you and the "good old days". Glad to hear you are well. I am starting a new business, unrelated to Baclofen but am going to keep pushing this as hard as I can.

We are ok. Baclofen and mirtazapine seems to be the right combination after a change of doctors and some experimenting. Still a way to go.

I have made a mistake on the Prescribing guide. The doctors writing the report say it is "heads above" the other treatment, ie., far superior. I misinterpreted that. I have had a professor of French literature translate it will publish it here again shortly once I type up his handwritten work. It is generally ok as it is but I want it so that it is reliable and publishable.

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

There is a new revision of the Prescribing Guide. I want to get as good a translation as I can. Here it is:

:H (and also Ne: :H) thanks for giving me giggles just after waking up from a rather sleepless night!

and mind you, even after a few hours of sleep, still feeling calm and kind of wondrous.
when i wake up nowadays (almost 4 weeks post witch), i don't start with a rambling head full of thoughts about all kinds of stressy things i think i have to resolve. leave alone the frustrating morning mantra's: feeling low, beating myself up some for drinking way to much again yesterday, followed by resolutions like i AM REALLY GONNA DRINK LESS TODAY, and how i will do that, followed by self-encouragement. and next morning: exactly the same.
over the last few days it's been so quiet in my head... man that needs some getting used to!
i've done a 10 day meditation training 2 times (at which i managed not to drink. it involved 12 hours of meditation daily, not speaking, not listening to music, or reading or writing, no making eye contact with other meditators, etc) and after that had a comparable state of mind (okay not quite the same, but still)
it's just amazing for someone who's head is always swarming with thoughts. and by this i don't mean interesting creative thoughts.

before i went AF (after the switch. i drank heavily all the way up to that. i can relate thoroughly to what Ne says about the se's) i thought when i'm sober i'm gonna feel so proud of myself when i meet people that now gossip about me, i'm gonna breathe my sober breath into their faces ("hhhhhhhhelloo hhhhhhow 're you doinghhhhhhh?") and feel great!

what it comes down to now: i couldn't care less about what they do or don't think of me. okay maybe the first night i breathed into a face or two.

Otter en Don: thanks so much!
i'm gonna have a meeting with my doc in a few weeks to give her the story of my baclofen journey and information on how it works, and in due time also with a psychiatrist, a man who knows of my taking baclofen cause my mother asked him if he had any experience with it (he replied: this is not a scientific based method. it doesn't work in the brain, but in the nerves in the spinal cord or something. blah blah blah). still he turned out to be interested about my experiences as he kept asking my mother about my process, so i intend to make an appointment with him after i've gotten my energy level up again to tell him what it is.
both of your reports will be HIGHLY helpful in these meetings!

I would stay with the English translation of the French doctor's Version 2 dated 09-07-2012.
Does 09-07-2012 mean 7 September as in the USA or 9 July as in the rest of the world?

This is the version that is being disseminated for an international audience. If you wish to differ in a MWO version please label it clearly as such.

              -----------------
              The translators, 09‐7‐2012:
              • David Harris, BA (U. of Calg) JD (U. of Tor.)
              • David J. Langdon MA (Oxon), MA (McMaster), Phd (U.B.C)
              -----------------
Sorry but this carries a lot more weight than an addict's version.

EDIT..... And if this version could receive a French stamp of approval .....

Baclofen Prescribing Guide for Doctors-English Version

Bonjour to all friends of the high-dosed Baclofen-Therapy against alcoholism.

Meanwhile there is a Baclofen guide, Version 3.0. This new version, unfortunately, has not been leaked yet. But I can truly confirm, that nothing has really changed. All the statements in the version 2.0, March 2012, are still highly relevant. So just enjoy it.

                        Hi Folks

I just realized, that some of the links in my fore last post are translated in a wrong way. A mouse klick produces this code:

                              Hi NE

Thanks for asking. Yes I??m very well.

As far as I know, the prescribing guide will be revised soon. First in French and then we will translate to the other languages. The changes will not be far reaching. Discussed is especially the repartition of the doses during the day. It??s fairly advantageous to target the hours of craving.

                              Up to now:

Better repartition in case of craving first and foremost in the evening:

The images were made with the ???baclofen-calculator?? from @C?lestin on http://www.baclofene.com/

It??s based on the half-live-period for the medicaments (baclofen) pharmacokinetic absorption and elimination. You can download the ???baclofen-calculator?? as an Excel-sheet here: http://bit.ly/1XGJx44

It??s in German but as I think self- explaining. And maybe someone of you can translate it to English.

DonQuixote, that is an incredibly useful set of graphs! I have been trying to rationalise blood levels & half life of baclofen for ages (& I know it's not ALL about plasma levels, pace Knobert!) I am presently on 200 mg daily & finding the somnolence mid afternoon very difficult to deal with, especially at work. I am going to reset my timings to those of the 2nd graph. That way I may even be able to drop total dosage a bit.

                                Many thanks.
