    Neltrexone

Started 50 mg. of neltrexone today and it seemed to work for my craving. I had one small glass of wine with dinner and it didn't even taste good. I would usually down a whole bottle of wine during and after dinner as well as binge eat and then purge. My psych says the neltrexone will help me with binge eating and alcohol cravings. I'm hoping this is my start to a healthier lifestyle. I want to lose weight and get in better shape. My hope is that with more physical exercise and healthier weight, I will have more enery and experience less stress aat work.

Good luck with the Nal, sounds as if you are following the Sinclair Method. Do you have some proper support?Have you seen the Sinclair Method forum?

The fact you've already noticed a difference indicates it may be very successful for you, but be prepared for your drinking to increase again. This is completely natural. I'm now attempting to use it to help with my binge eating tendencies, first job was to sort the alcohol out though!
I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.

Drank within safe limits for almost 2 years

        Starting Naltrexone shortly

        :new:

I went to a psychiatrist on Saturday and he said to steer clear of Topomax, saying it works, but the side effects are not at all good (it's nickname is Dope-oh-max) as it prevents brain synapses from firing, and affects more than those associated with drinking. He put me on Naltrexone, which I'll start when my MWO package arrives. I was told to expect the package on Thursday or Friday of this week, but the only tracking info I have is that it cleared the USPS facility in Anchorage, Alaska (!! WTF !!) yesterday morning!

I had to talk him into the validity of this program, and I'm not sure when he gave me the Rx that he thought I'd take it. He told me once I start I should see him at least once a week, and possible join a group (I'm not going to AA---other issues with AA). Then he scheduled a follow up in three weeks, which I moved up to the 16th. I might see him sooner, though, as I want close monitoring for a number of reasons.

Day one is coming up quickly, but I feel like I've already started. I know that's niave, as the withdrawls are the tough part....
Well the 1st are the hardest days don't you worry anymore.

Wait, are you doing The Sinclair Method, or no? Check out The Cure for Alcoholism by Roy Eskapa. In TSM you take nal and drink, so no withdrawals.

Either way, keep digging through threads here, as there are a lotta folks who've done/are doing TSM.

          Good Luck!
