    Feeling unwell on Campral

    Hi

I started taking campral a week ago. I'm also taking antabuse at the same time. The doctor advised it was fine to do this but I don't feel great. My skin itches and I feel kind of nauseous. Has anyone else experienced this??

Probably the antabuse but just a guess.
If you think the Campral works, great stick with it.

I am just going to put it out there. Campral is not effective beyond a placebo effect. I have had a couple doctors now say that to me. One of which is on top of most treatments. There have been studies.

It did nothing for me. The antabuse should keep you clean that's for sure. You can buy GABA supplements that will work better than the Campral IMHO.

Naltrexone helps a lot of folks. That would be my other thought on low risk low side effect meds. It helped me a bit.

I had to go to baclofen to get results.

If you have the will though, stick with the antabuse and maybe the naltrexone or natural diet and supplements for cravings.

Hi Jodie, welcome to MWO, you can get lot of help and support on here if you keep coming on and reading and posting.

I have taken both campral and antabuse and do know that campral can upset your stomach for a while when you first start taking it but it usually wears off pretty soon, it can also give you the runs, but so does alcohol I suppose antabuse also could upset your stomach as well, in fact pretty much medication can. I myself wouldnt worry too much about ichiness so long as you havent got a rash, if you do get a rash then that could be an alergy to something, but Im not a doctor so I wouldnt really know.

When I took campral I did find it to be of some help and could tell if I had missed a dose, it did take the edge off cravings for me, and there are others who have used it with great success. So hopefully when these se's settle down you could get great success using these two meds together. If you look around the site you can find lots of ideas and suggestions, have you read the book, that has good tips in it as well.

I have to rush of out now but if I can later I will see if I can find any campral stories for you, we did have an active antabuse thread but its kind of fallen by the wayside a bit, it is called antabuse and naltrexone

Thank you, really appreciate you taking the time to answer. I think I will persevere. Part of the problem is my mindset is such that I think, 'I've not had a drink in 7 days, therefore I should feel fantastic'. I forget that I've been drinking really heavily for a few months now and it might take a while. I guess an upset stomach etc is nothing compared to the type of hangovers I was experiencing every single day.
