    High Dose Baclofen: Insufferable Anxiety!!

In general I really appreciate your input, COS and hope you'll consider continuing to participate. This was clearly a matter of misunderstanding and miscommunication. I just wanted to help clarify so that there wasn't more consternation and confusion.

I certainly understand time constraints! It can be difficult to balance it all. I hope that it's a good busy!

      High Dose Baclofen: Insufferable Anxiety!!

      Hi All,

I didn't mean to start trouble. :0) Was just sharing some advice, granted I don't have enough background on what exactly is going on.

      My last two cents...
Tx Dude - you said "I exercise furiously--Bikram 106 degree yoga 5x per week, work out, swim," That is part of what got me into trouble. Excessive exercise, on top of emotional stress. Any type of stress to the body beyond normal yoga, meditation etc is just like emotional stress when done in excess. All I'm suggesting is that perhaps you slow down a little on doing so much and give your body a chance to rest and heal. Yoga is great, medication is amazing but I would personally keep it to standard yoga without the 106 degree, take a small break from working out and swimming, keep meditating. You are taxing your adrenals. I used to run marathons, work out 7 days a week, eat healthy, and I still got screwed because I just didn't know when to take a break. Try it for a week. The fact that your nighttime seems to get worst tells me your cortisol is spiking at night.

I would make a suggesting and have a 24 hour saliva test done to check your cortisol levels throughout the day. They should be high in the morning and slowly come down until they are low at night so you can sleep soundly.

Anyways, just trying to help. Hope you are feeling better.

That seems like really good advice. Taxing your body to extremes is not necessarily healthy and your recovery mechanisms are finite. If you're going to be undergoing HDB maybe it's a good idea to cut back on some of the physical exercise. Seriously. I'm a fellow musician... i.e. extremist and having the perfect six-pack isn't worth jeopardizing your "recovery" from the other six-pack. As a fellow 44 year old... use some common sense, man! You've got plenty of time to pursue the exercise and such AFTER you've fully recovered your ability to drink sanely. Give yourself a break.

              High Dose Baclofen: Insufferable Anxiety!!

OMG. I just created an account so I could reply to this as I was just going to look for help. I am going through the EXACT same thing. I was on 7 Grams of Phenibut a day and was prescribed bacloflen about 6 weeks ago. I goal was to tirate up on the baclofen and then tirate down on the phenibut. From the start it was good. I got all the way up to about 160 mg of baclofen and I was starting to really see the anti anxiety effects...the light at the end of the tunnel. Up until last week. I started to have more and more anxiety. I figured it was because I was lowering the phenibut too much so I went back to a higher dosaage. Nope nothing. I kept feeling like this was some kind of withdrawal because the symptoms were there. No sleep. Nausea through the roof. Hard to breath. Complete restlessness. So I figured it had to be the phenibut. So I upped my dosage of baclofen and then upped my does of phenibut to try and knock out these withdrawal feelings (stupid). I eventually went to the Emergency Room because I felt like I was going to pass out. They prescribed me Ativan and told me to go home and slowly get off the baclofen.

That was the first time I thought it could be the baclofen. How? I was adding 20mg a week and didn't feel anything until 70mg. I was starting to think this was week. Once I hit 160mg I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Then before I had the chance to go to 180 I started to get sick.

That night was the worst. As the day went on I didn't take anymore baclofen and I started to feel better. I took 40mg at 10pm because I know you are supposed to tirate down. At this time I could feel manageable. Sure enough after 2 hours or so I start getting those same feelings of nausea, anxiety, heart racing. How? I haven't taken baclofen for 24 hours to let it clear my system so to speak and taking 40mg when I'm supposed to take 120mg in a day makes me feel this way. That was last night. It's 6:00pm Est and I don't know what to do. What makes me so sad is that maybe for people like us baclofen doesn't work. I was getting extremely amazing effects at 100/120mg in a day. Then only 40mg makes me sick again?

              Any advice?

                High Dose Baclofen: Insufferable Anxiety!!

I responded on the thread you started, Jay.

I think you've written what you're looking for! Increasing doses, and increasing phenibut, in the initial attempt to feel better--it may seem like a good idea in the moment (God knows I've been there, but with booze) but it doesn't really work out.

And here's the thing: Bac withdrawal, just as with ANY drug, can be very serious. Or it can just be really, really uncomfortable. That might not happen immediately, but it is not an unlikely scenario. I've seen some people get profoundly depressed, although there is really no telling if it was the baclofen withdrawal or the fact that they lost hope, or the fact that they returned to active addiction. No one can know that...

You're going to need to titrate down off of the baclofen. Really. No matter what. If you haven't taken any by the time you read this (even if it's tomorrow, meaning on Sunday) you'll likely want to take some. If you opt not to, I hope you'll keep a good eye on your mental health and well being.

On the other hand, if you decide to go back to a level close to what you were taking, and then titrate down, you'll be able to find a comfortable dose AND continue the process of dealing with your addiction. Baclofen works. It just does. The anxiety comes from overdoing it. You can find a comfortable place with baclofen, and it will still work to combat your addiction.

We can talk more about that if you want to explore that. Or any of the rest of it! I hope you'll check in and let us know what you decide and how you're doing. Take good care of yourself.

Just checking in. I'm feeling considerably better on the Valium protocol as prescribed by my doctor. I hope to be off all that soon.
Currently hanging at 270 mg bac and I think the bac that built up too highly in my system is still slowly working its way out.
                  just my hyposthesis.
                  Will keep y'all apprised.

Glad to hear you're hanging in there TX! Sounds like you've gotten through the worst of it. Are you planning on titrating down more still, just more slowly or are you going to hang at 270?

Down to 260 and gonna stay here for now.
I SEEM to be normalizing. Last night was my first night without Valium--I mean the early evening attacks which have been the worst. I took some before bed just to ensure a solid sleep.

Don't wanna say i'm out of woods but things are improving for sure

                        High Dose Baclofen: Insufferable Anxiety!!

                        TX Git Slinger, Jaydi,

I have had a very similar experience with high doses of baclofen which I have posted up on a separate thread. How you are getting on?

I am looking at taking the same course of action as you (titrating down slowly whilst taking Valium) but I am worried that I will be left with withdrawal symptoms from the Valium once the course of this is over. If you could let me know how it is going that would be really appreciated.
