A Warning to those who are thinking about trying Benzodiazepines

Ok some Aussie doctors are stupid but all the ones I've seen over the last 20 years (bypassing the ear nose and throat specialist who prescribed klonopin for a neurological disorder ) say 2 weeks max.
Thanks for the link but I'm not surprised at all bout the more addictive aspect of the story
I have been in a psych hospital where people were also treated for alcohol withdrawal and they were all complaining how they only got one week on Valium, then tapered off, and were cross that they didn't have a script to go home with - the 2 week rule is certainly pretty strict in hospitals. My Father is having half his foot amputated as we speak and my Mother asked her doctor for something like Valium to help her through and the doctor said no. Good doctor as far as I'm concerned.

It does not matter what else you are taking a benzo is a benzo - cant find any articles so far that say baclofen cancels out the addictive properties of benzos. I have been on baclofen too for my neurological issues and still got totally dependent on klonopin.

Oh and btw baclofen has shocking withdrawals as well, they often use benzos to help people come off baclofen. I took it for a neuro disorder not for alcohol, but I guess it's whatever works for the individual to stop drinking and I guess that depends on the level of abuse. I didn't even know it was used for this purpose.

I'm not going to weigh in on the benzo/high dose bac conversation. But I do want to make sure to clarify one thing, because it's extremely important to do so.

Yep, they sure will. But it will do absolutely no good. So I'm saying this for one reason only, and that's so people who are on bac will know this will not work. Nothing works for bac withdrawal except
                bac. That's simply true.

I'm wary of giving out advice, as I'm not the expert here, and "advice" is a bad idea on an anonymous forum and coming from someone who's not a doctor. And I am NOT a doctor. But if you're in bac withdrawal you ought to take enough to be within 20 mgs or so of the last dose you were on. Wait a few days to settle in, then continue going down slowly and steadily, if that's what you're trying to do (go down, that is).

The rest of this thread is it's own thing, but the above point needed to be clarified.

Yep you have to taper off it very very slowly - that's what I did under neurologists instructions - and even then it was not fun.

I think this sums it up here - I wouldn't be taking benzos with baclofen - read these - and they are fairly reliable sources I think. I am not a doctor but I think I have enough intelligence to give advice on the evidence as it is presented to me:
PS this also mentions people with a history of alcohol abuse specifically....

Glad some folks are realizing that benzos in general are addictive and taking them daily can have consequences.

Funny how generation to generation there's a new type of drug and people think they are perfect.

I find it funny too that some weigh in like there's nothing wrong with them but get enough folks with horror stories and they come around.

Drugs have their place and their uses but they aren't always cure all's.

That's it in a nutshell. Medication never fixes anything on its own - you need medical support, psychological support and personal support. Most of all you need self knowledge I reckon.

That's our gorgeous Keeshond Lady. She's actually pretty easy one brush a week and poodle parlor once a month! Sooo good with children as you can see - no danger of her eating the ice cream at all

Who was it? As I recall Muscian Mallet who stated that Heroine or opiate witdrawal was like a piece of cake in comparison to benzo one
