    finished bac taper have questions

Hey there. First time here I'm asta, have some questions about baclofen taper. I've been selfmedicating with bac and some other meds (miltown, cipram, rivotril, lyrica) for my booze&coke issues. I managed to stay clean and after some time I decided to quit the meds. I successfully tapered milt/lyr/rivo without any accidents but this bac is tricky med. delirium freaks me out (I know it happens when you abruptly discontinue but I'm kinda paranoid

I tapered 7.5 mgs every 5 days. Yesterday was my last bac dose. However during my last days on bac I started to get jerks so I panicked big time. I got some ativans and been on them since. Anyways what I wanna know is how many people managed to quit bac without any trouble (convulsion, delirium etc). Are the jerks common thing? also I started having nausea for like 2-3 days so I assume its bac related too? I really appreciate if those who has experiences similar like me share their stories.
    cheers asta ox

    finished bac taper have questions

Hey asta, welcome to the forum! I'm not one of the high dose baclofen users around here, not yet anyway, but I wanted to say hi anyway and make a few comments.

Maybe the symptoms you are experiencing could be due to stopping the other medications?? Or maybe even a combination of quitting them plus baclofen around the same time? I say this because I have read of withdrawal reactions occurring for some time after stopping benzodiazepines such as Rivotril, and benzo-like drugs such as Miltown...I have even read of Lyrica (and gabapentin too) having some benzo-like properties, even though they are not of course actually benzos. I have also heard of a wide variety of withdrawal symptoms happening after reducing or quitting SSRI's such as citalopram....this class of medications can be far harder to quit than most people realize.

I'm not saying that baclofen does not have withdrawal symptoms, because it does, but I'm thinking that maybe getting off a number of drugs all around the same time could make it difficult to identify which ones are causing you problems. If you stopped them all apart from baclofen with few problems, and then only started having problems once you tapered off the baclofen, then I'd say it could be baclofen...but two things still seem unusual. Firstly, your tapering off at the rate of 7.5 mg each 5 days seems a very safe and acceptable way of stopping baclofen, so that could mean your problems are not due to baclofen withdrawal. Secondly, if Ativan is effective in treating your symptoms, I don't think it's baclofen withdrawal, because benzos aren't very effective in stopping baclofen withdrawal symptoms, at least according to what I have read so far on this forum.

Sorry my answer isn't very precise, but you will probably get more helpful replies from the people here who have more experience with baclofen than I do...I mainly wanted to welcome you here and give one or two opinions.

Your taper sounds fine to me, it's a lot slower than I have done in the past without any issues.

Maybe try taking a little and see if the symptoms disappear. If they do, you know it's caused by baclofen withdrawal and you will need to do it slower. If not, at least you have removed baclofen as the cause.

Don't think so, I quit miltown, lyrica and rivo way back before I finished the taper.

Most of the other stuff - like convulsons, anxiety etc can be managed with benzos.

I thought that too but since I'm bac free and been waiting it for so long I just can't start all the shit again. I'll go see a doc if I can't fix this by my own. thanks xo
