I just did some sleuthing. I can be such a fool. My cynicism and lack of faith in other people was sorely misplaced in regards to Roberta Jewell and MyWayOut.org.

Everything I wrote concerning Roberta Jewell and this website, Mywayout.org, is wrong. Absolutely wrong.
It seems that Roberta Jewell meant what she said in her last post and has followed through on it since then.

I'm going to amend my original post to reflect that fact.

I apologize. Most humbly to Roberta Jewell should she visit these parts.
And my sincere gratitude.

The original post has been deleted. And yet all of the filth and muck spread by others remains.

I find it a wicked irony that I care very little about what is said about me, directly, but care a great deal about the tone, attitude and amount of accurate information available on this site.

The moderator who deleted my post, it seems to me, is more worried about protecting the vaunted name of Roberta Jewell than the very website she created (and pays for) to help us help each other.

Dear RJ & Forum Moderator,

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to all. I realize the Moderators are volunteers & have lives outside of MWO. Hopefully, healthy, happy & productive ones. I'd also like to thank you for clearing up any doubts about this site being sold. Even if it were, or is in the future, it is RJ's right to do so.

Yes, it costs money to buy software licenses, upgrades & hosting websites, etc. Most sites to members are free as advertising pays these costs. There is revenue coming in for this site, from the store as well. Along with who ever chooses to join the paid subscriber portion here.

The problem with self governing is, I've behaved like a 15 yr old at times, maybe a 2yr old. I'm sure there are parts of myself that were stunted from my drinking. I'm still working on growing up. Tho, I want to keep the spirit of my child alive within myself & have fun too.

I'm still working on that I can't control anybody else, but me. The better I'm able to achieve this, the better I have peace. However, there are indeed certain posters, who are continuing to rub me the wrong way as well. I've even gone as far to have others who are more objective, read certain posts, to check & see if I'm perceiving things from to of an emotional point of view. The conclusion was that certain posters, repeated behaviors aren't being held accountable for. Tho it doesn't make them 100% right either.

Therefore the choices are. Keep complaining to admin, leave, take a break, ignore, take screen shots & e-mail, fax them to RJ, Capalo Press, their Public Relations Dept. Tho, since my active time here I've personally never seen anything that would warrant the latter. My choice so far has only been to ignore, take breaks, & take it out of here. I'm choosing to live a life of positivity, healing, health & reasonable happiness.

I read the book years ago, but then stopped taking my Topamax & working other various skills that I'd learned. I'm very grateful today for all the research, meds, programs of any type to help people over come this serious addiction to alcohol. I've read many of RJ's posts. I've found them very non judgemental, extremely compassionate, intelligent, easy & enjoyable to read. One of the things I like about MWO, is that you can do this program from the privacy of your home. Yet, you state in a post, that many find success by tackling this addiction, using a variety of approaches. I couldn't agree more. Even tho I don't use the entire MWO program, I sense you'd be fine with that. Over the years, I've had to use parts of different programs to achieve lasting success.

It's been a long journey in my life. I'm grateful that you chose to keep the site up & running. It has helped me many times with my sobriety & life. Countless others have also been helped. Thank you!.... There are things here that I never learned anywhere else. I'm very grateful to be doing as well as I am, I know others who haven't been as fortunate.

I understand that you are very busy in your new life. Still, it's been a long time since you visited & posted. I do personally feel the moral would be lifted, if you could pop in once a year to say hi, but of course this is your choice, one that I would respect. I wish you & all MWO'ers continued good health, happiness, peace & prosperity.

I'm glad to know you've found this site helpful. Its mission to help those who suffer with alcohol addiction remains intact and will never change.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, the cost of maintenance and upkeep of a site like this is not insignificant. I continue to serve as overall administrator (I have contracted daily maintenance to others), but I simply do not have time to support it in its current state with the limited revenue it generates. That was never its purpose--to make money. I was eager, and able, to throw abundant energy into MWO when I first launched this site, but it took a ton of time, energy and investment. I am proud of my work and I care deeply for the visitors here, but I have moved on. New life, new marriage, new career. I'm doing really well and I am committed to the mission of MWO, but I can no longer participate in the forum at the same level.

I understand the site needs updating, but frankly at this point, my choice is to take it down or leave it as is. I simply don't have time to oversee an overhaul of the website, forum and blog. For that reason, I've chosen to host the site in its current state, for now anyway, because I think it still provides helpful information and support to those who visit.

And many do visit--thousands each week. Except for a small number of Subscribers, to whom I am *extremely* grateful, those visitors are non-paying registered members or guests who all benefit from the site at no charge.

Over the past couple of years I've been encouraged to use social networking in my outreach. I am considering a Twitter page, which should be easier to update more regularly. I often find fascinating articles in addiction research or web resources I'd love to share with you, and Twitter may be another avenue for that.

As I read this thread, I must say that it is so heartwarming to read the posts from those of you who have benefited from this place. I smile when I see many of your user names because I feel as if I know you. Everyone here is such an important member in this network of support and I am continually grateful for the contributions each of you make.

I hear a lot of heartfelt and sincere gratitude here, and I share it. And I hear people willing to step up and support the cause in any way possible. But there also seems to be a lot of hand wringing and crying to the heavens, in the old threads I read as well as now.

Oh why won't OA deliver us more messages, the bac secrets that will guarantee our salvation? Oh what is RJ's intention for this site, how do we fit into her plan? Oh why do the FMs allow bad things to happen to good people, why won't they protect us from those who would destroy MWO?

The real question is why are we wandering around lost in the wilderness, as if we're god's children after the Fall? There are no gods here, only people trying to run a website on a budget, and many more people trying to help each other up out of the muck of life and disease.

With any community there will be personality clashes, and there will be spats. But it is truly unacceptable for 2 or 3 people with a 1/2 dozen or so usernames to chill the entire Meds forum. It is beyond unacceptable for them to derail new threads when people find this site and come here for help.

No matter what happens, that must end immediately. And no, I don't have a suggestion as to how we should go about it.

This is very personal to me, because MWO saved me. I mean that literally. I invite you to look at the first few pages of my thread to see the kind of welcome I received. And to see who was there to welcome me. I then invite you to imagine those first posts, or the posts when I first started really freaking out, being answered by desperados, baclofan, benzo control board, BillF, or a I'm sure a couple others whose names escape me at the moment.

My thread is the record of a very sick, very scared person who almost gave up every step of the way. I am now indifferent to alcohol, no longer scared, and extremely pissed off that the same opportunities might be denied to even a single addict who's lucky enough to find MWO.

Yes, this is very personal to me. Because if MWO had gone differently, I might very well be dead.

It is just a function of group dynamics and the "fallacy of composition". This forum is not a person, but a collection of people who shift like the sands and all have different takes on life, al, bac etc. Everyone is still out there recovering, getting on with things, there are people who are trying to disrupt this forum for business reasons or out of illness or both.

It is what it is, I am afraid, but it is still the best place to be for recovery.

When I said in my last post on this thread that I have not seen problems I was wrong, I have, its just that I havent taken any notice. But it is a major problem when people are getting personally insulted and newcommers are getting put off coming here for help. Come on please, if you want help and support then stay here, if you dont then dont, whats the point, are you like 12 or something, or just nasty people who get kicks from trying to screw up other peoples lives, if so your time might be better spent elsewhere trying to find help for yourself to find wellbeing you are so obviously lacking.

This site saves lives, this is important.
