    Xadrian's Baclofen Experience

This afternoon I had an appointment with my (ex-)psychiatrist.
Not exactly for myself, but for asking how his other baclofen patiants are doing.

It turns out that he prescribes it even more often now and already had success with 6 patients at even lower doses than I was on.
Two of the patients stopped drinking completely.

He told me that these patients however, could not be compared with my situation, because all of them had also other issues.

One of this patients has changed for the better overall. Not just the alcohol problem, but also other behaviour.

It was so good to hear that and made the visit worth it.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

        Xadrian's Baclofen Experience

The last few days, I have extreme tension in my neck and shoulder muscles.
I also dream at night of doing things that I have to do at short notice.

I doubt if either of them is related to baclofen use.
I think I might be a little overworked and overstressed lately.

          Xadrian's Baclofen Experience

After not having posted in a while, here's an update.

Being overworked and overstressed, I took a 2 1/2 week vacation in the beginning of September and went to The Netherlands, without wife and kids, to surprise my grandmother, who was turning 90.

For the rest I used my vacation to get my brain reset and see everybody that I wanted to see and visited all the places that I wanted to visit.
I also went to Germany to see the new house of my former neighbour and we even worked out a plan for financing the apartment complex we bought from her.

I also did see the woman of which breaking up with, has been one of the most traumatic experiences in my life (and from that time caused me to drink even more than I already did) and I got an answer on some questions that kept me busy for 16 years.
I haven't told my wife yet that I met her, but I will do in the near future.

I also decided that I don't want a third child, because I'm getting too old for it. It was very hard to tell my wife. She had hoped for a 3rd child and it kind of broke her heart when I told her. But I REALLY don't want more children.

I also worked out a plan to divide my time between working, paperwork, administrating and improving the apartment complex, building my house, gardening, family and free time in a more structured way.

All of this and some other things caused the necessary stress and turbulance. It also caused me to drink a lot of beer for the last two weeks. It weren't really cravings, but I just wanted to drink.

Anyway, finally all the thoughts and impressions seem to have settled and I just feel good about it.
I don't want to drink any more beer for quite a while.
Just to be sure, I increased my baclofen from 70 mgs per day to my supposed switch dose of 90 mgs per day. (Somehow, I get the impression that the baclofen of the brand Sandoz, which I use now, doesn't work quite as well as that of the brand Ratiopharm, which worked well at even 50 mgs.)

I just signed up for a new abstinance challenge for as long as I want.

Today (if you even can call it day) I woke up at the insane time of 1.30 AM and couldn't sleep anymore.

So I guess that gives me the time to catch up some arrears.

I started taking an SNRI a couple of weeks ago which has established normal sleeping patterns. I can't believe the difference it has made! But I sure do miss the middle of the night quiet time.

Hope you got a lot done, Xadrian!

I'm already going down to my supposed maintenance dose.

March 1st I dropped 10 mgs and are now at 80. I take it in 2 doses, 20 mg at noon and 60 mgs before sleep. This helps keeping the somnolence away at daytime and helps me sleeping better at night.

                        3 weeks AF today. Effortless.

Sorry I missed this, Neo. I'm taking mirtazapine (Remeron). No changes in cravings.

Great to hear, Xadrian. So glad that you're doing so well.

xadrian-keep us posted on your journeys back down. I want to hear/learn more about coming back down to a maintenance dose in your range. I don't want to stay up at 200 for years if I can avoid it. Thanks!

                              Hi Ne

Is the remeron good for sleep issues? I've never taken it but would be open to if it helped with depression and sleep. I'm assuming it's safe with baclofen?

I tried to PM you but your box is full.

The maintenance dose is typically somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 of the switch dose, so you could expect yours somewhere between 100 mgs and 135 mgs.

Because I'm taking this voyage for the second time, I know that my maintenance dose is around 50 mgs. I'm planning to go down 10 mgs every 2 weeks, until light cravings re-appear. Then I up 10 mgs and there's my maintenance dose, at which I have to stay for a long time.

You can read some more detailed information how I did it the first time in the early posts of this same thread, if you like.
