I am hearing about a shot you get for alcoholism

    A shot for alcoholism

Is there a shot for alcoholism and does it help?

Certainly. In some islamic countries you will get shot for consuming alcohol and it most certainly does help to get rid of your alcoholism :H

Sorry, I couldn't help myself for making that joke. Most people here are so sreious all the time.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

My counselor swore by it. I get mixed reviews saying that it drops off too fast. You can only get it once every 6 months I believe. I hear it drops off around 4 months.

Hopefully the shot works better than the pills. I took them religiously and still drank. All they did was give me an upset stomach.

So I still drank in New Orleans but could not eat as much as I wanted.

:H Yeah, that kind of "shot" usually does the trick. LOL

I've also heard of an Antabuse shot. I take it in pill form, but I've heard it's available in a shot as well. Antabuse works by making you EXTREMELY sick if you drink while taking it. Kinda kills any appeal that drinking once had!
:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

Does it make you indifferent to depression, do you know. ?

Wasn't sure if this was a joke or not.

If not then I think you are asking how it works with depression.

Naltrexone in my experience certainly doesn't help depression as such HOWEVER if you have alcohol induced or influenced depression I think it changes it. For instance when I was drinking pre TSM I'd go through bouts of depression whenever I'd gotten drunk, I'd lie in bed at the end of the binge sobering up feeling really bad. Bad about me, my life, my drinking but whenever I got in periods of sobriety although it was a struggle, I always felt much better and lifted - the crippling depression associated with drinking wasn't there, although I was very stressed most of the time.

I can feel naltrexone flattening my mood, however it doesn't send me into the pit alcohol did. I personally think it's a milder, more constant thing and on the days I don't take Nal I usually feel a lot better, but not all the time these days(but I also have a lot of external concerns at the moment which are affecting me too).

I think Nal levels you out, but at a level slightly less than the norm, then again a lot of people are a bit humdrum anyway! I also think taking alcohol out of the equation helps a lot with easing depression, more than the nal depresses(if you see what I mean?).

I found alcohol made my mood swing a lot more, I suppose it might depend on the individual.
I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.

Drank within safe limits for almost 2 years

Sorry, I just remembered someone saying I take everything too seriously.

Hi - Just checking in here as I am still on Antabuse but hanging out on the daily abstinence posts. I am now almost 2 months AF free - and taking AB every second day at low dose - as I have had liver damage so want to keep the levels down. ABworks for me. Just wondered how K9 Lover is? You were so helpful to me this year with your little messages. I will try to keep in touch with my fellow Antabuse people.
Naltrexone did not work for me - flattened me out so much that I wanted to never get out of bed or do anything. But thats just me. Life is great these days!

I was really depressed when I started taking naltrexone. I took it pretty much every day for about six months. It isn't that bad really. I drank less and less, so I wasn't feeling guilty over some stupid thing I had done. So, I felt better about myself.

Also, with my consumption going down, I generally felt better all around. But, still, one doesn't feel exactly right. When I started having alcohol free days, I really began looking forward to being sober. Hard to describe, but I just felt so much better.

And that feeling reinforced my desire to not get drunk.
Sinclair Method (50mg naltrexone one hour before drinking)

Pre TSM 80-90 Units Per Week, No Alc Free Days

After control: 3-6 units per month, 25+ alcohol free days!

I am hearing about a shot you get for alcoholism

Hi UK and Heavy Fuel, Treetops, have you read any of the baclofen reviews, articles? I was surprised on the NIMH, it is now listed as a therapy for alcoholism!

I haven't read all the threads, so maybe I'm saying something that's already been reviewed.
                        - sorry if I have.

UK, I know exactly about the pits of depression after my binge bouts. And as well, even after some sobriety time, the stresses of life just got to me. I hated the depression and I knew the cycle would begin again.

I would say that baclofen stabilizes my mood. It doesn't make me flat, but it doesn't make me high. It makes me feel normal. (yikes, what is that?) Anyway, what I perceive as normal.

My thread is quite boring and not filled with too much stuff other than it's working for me. I wish you the best. Also, Treetops, baclofen is a lightweight on the liver! Although I don't have any liver problems yet, I always think about that when I take any medications.

Here's to a good day of sobriety to all.

                          thanks!

                          Cheers!
