Thank you!!! It's good to be back!!!

For those who don't know me yet...

Hi, I am new here and need some help. I have always been a social drinker. Recently I have had to take care of my grandparents and put them in a nursing home (3/2011). Got them settled in, and then my dad in November of 2012 was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer. I stayed with him in the nursing home for close to 11 weeks. In order to deal with everything, I began drinking more than socially. More to block out what was happening with dad, and to get through the day and sleep at nights. Dad passed away April 10, 2012. After that, my grandpa became sick and he just passed away this November 2012. I am drinking about a bottle of wine a night with a few beers or a small bottle of Fireball with a few beers. My husband is threatening to leave me. I am functionable during the day with a good job. Just drink when the job is done. I have a lot of friends, but none that I want to discuss this. Now, I found out I may have Hepatitis C (no clue where this came from, as I don't do drugs, sleep with anyone but my husband of 12 years). The only thing my doctor could come up with, is I had an open sore on my foot a couple months ago that lead to Staph infection and cellulitis. Anyway, I have a follow up with a Digestive Disease doctor to see if it was a misreading. I would love to kick this habit of drinking before I lose my husband, home, dignity and liver. I plan to read the book, but what should I start with tonight? Should I go and buy some Topiramate? I believe our local nutritional center sells it. Where do I start?

I had some really good success with baclofen so far. There are more examples like me on the forum.
You could try to get a prescription from your GP, however for most of the baclofen users that has been a bit of a problem.

I eventually got it from a psychiatrist.

The best advice I can give you is read about it (a/o on this forum) and read a lot.

Make a plan before you start with whatever and try to convince your doctor to prescribe it and supervise you. If you don't succeed, there are other ways to get it.

Other medicines or techniques might work too, but I have only experience with baclofen.
See the corresponding posts for other medicines.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

            I think?

I think this is the right thread to bring to the top again. I am again on the Baclofen anti-anxiety journey. Nothing, and I mean nothing works like Baclofen. My anxiety leads to my drinking, no doubt about it.
I ordered Friday and received it Saturday...are you kidding me? Thank you from the bottom of my heart pool guy!
To watch my animals calm down, calms me to the max.

I know and hope Cassander joins in. This drug is amazing for anxiety. Anxiety leads to so many issues including alcohol abuse.

            Thanks Phoenix

              Hi LoOp, Hippyman and all:
I've read most of the Baclofen consoliated and decided I want to try Bac and in particular liquid Bac (to reduce the symptoms). Using LoOps analysis of cost etc. I ordered from goldpharma only to get confirmation that I was getting injectiable Bac . .. so could someone help me ? I don't mind of the liquid bac costs a little more, just not clear how to differntiate liquid (oral) from injectable. Any help appreciated.

No freaking out necessary! The stuff you ordered is sold for "research purposes only". I would think that you could call for clarification.

I ordered from Phoenix last Thursday night and received it yesterday and I'm clear across the country! I also received 2 syringes that I didn't order. What fabulous service! I'm so grateful.

Hi, Ask: I wouldn't worry at all. If your research project is "new," it's important to know how to generate consistent, low doses. I posted a thread about just that a week or so ago: https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...bac-73321.html

If your research project has been underway for a while, you probably don't need those small doses. I really think that's all the call was about. And, from Kroncarr's post, it appears there is now a simpler protocol for new projects - syringes that measure smaller doses. Remember, it's a pretty new company. It may take a little time to get all the bases covered; but I'd take the call as a sign that they're looking for ways to improve their service. That's. All.

                                Hi LL

Glad to see you are here and doing well.

Yes, the connection between alcoholism and anxiety is strong and, as you well know, many find relief not only from craving, but also from the underlying generalized anxiety, with baclofen. You were one of the very first to write about this on this board.

I posted earlier today on dundrinkin's thread about my conviction that baclofen "works" and my regret that the trolls sometimes have their day. Fortunately, the troll invasion seems usually short-lived, and then they disappear, hopefully without too much harm being done.

                                Best,
