Can anyone give me any advice. What to expect? Do I have to take it 3 times a day or just two. Any advice or experiences is great appreciated.

hi mya,i have campral but ive only taken two pills when i was drunk like an idiot,i never stuck with it,theres an old thread somewhere in the meds section,ive read nothing but positives about it,except it may mess up your tummy at first,keep us posted on how it works for you

I never had any effects or side effects. I don't think you have to worry. A couple folks mentioned stomach issues.

Naltrexone did a big number on my stomach especially if I was drinking.

I don't think you will have any worries with it. It's not a strong med in any sense.

Acamprosate is thought to stabilize the chemical balance in the brain that would otherwise be disrupted by alcoholism, possibly by antagonizing glutamatergic N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors and agonizing gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) type A receptors.[3] Reports indicate that acamprosate only works with a combination of attending support groups and abstinence from alcohol.[4][5] Certain serious side effects include diarrhea, allergic reactions, irregular heartbeats, and low or high blood pressure, while less serious side effects include headaches, insomnia, and impotence.[6] Acamprosate should not be taken by people with kidney problems or allergies to the drug.[7]

I completely agree with it. I am not trying to put a damper on it but it is far from some miracle med. One of my well published counselors thinks it is b.s.

I say take it and if it helps great. I don't think it hurts. I get the feeling it's really only for if you are coming off the bottle. So you really have to put a plan in place.

Took my first dose about 30 mins ago.
I don't plan on drinking at all. I need to get healthy, my husband and so go to the gym everyday no matter what and I was just sitting at home drinking.
It has to stop.

Just a little update.
1st day ook all three doses and had a really bad headache.
2nd day only took two doses and felt much better.
Today only had one dose adn will take another in a few hours.
I think three doses was too much for me
