    K9 - Antabuse

K9 - how did you get a prescription for this? Was it because of the DUIs? I went to my general practicioner yesterday and she didn't feel comfortable prescribing it. She has me on Topamax and Ativan (which, by the way, I have at just the right amount and times of day to finally work), but I want antabuse to "take the question out of should I drink or should I not drink").

She is referring me to a drug rehab place, but I don't want to go to counseling! I already went there, and it didn't work; the only thing that works is medicine, and I am going to start attending a Celebrate Recovery at my church.

Just curious your history with the antabuse.
I will be sober so I can be clear and remember being a mommy and so I can be in the best place God wants to place me. I will be here! now! FREE! 12.5mg Topamax AM&PM, Ativan until safe from withdrawal syndrome & for anxiety. Thank God I Am Done!

    Hi Rainyday!

When I went to my doctor I was distraught about my drinking. I think I was lucky to find her. At the time, she had a nephew struggling with alcoholism. She was impressed with all my research on Antabuse, and I also told her about my participation in MWO. She felt that I was informed enough to take it. I think sometimes Doctors are worried that they're prescribing something that could be potentially fatal if mixed with alcohol. They seem to always want to prescribe counseling also. I told her that I felt MWO was enough for me, and it has proven to be true. If your current doctor will not presribe Antabuse, keep searching until you find one that will. Antabuse and MWO have literally saved my life. Don't give up...keep searching until you find what you need!

Let me know if you need more info

Thanks! Yes, I have done plenty of research too. Reading your posts, I think we're a lot a like, but I've told you that before!

      Please pray for me!

I know my daughter has been praying for me and that sucks! She's only 8, and has been praying in her class (Christian School) because my husband and I are fighting constantly.

Oh - BTW - it's a nurce Practicioner I usually see, so maybe that's why... I'll keep looking.

I agree that Antabuse is a wonderful safety net so you can't drink. I believe you can buy it from River Pharmacy from this site. :welcome:

                Hi Rainy!

Mine was perscribed through a Nurse Practitioner as well...no offense to doctors, but sometimes I think the Nurse's are more in tune with the patients (or nurce, as you say. LOL)

I know your daughter loves you very much...think of her when you feel the beast telling you that it's okay to "have a few". Your daughter and mine both make it through the day just fine with no alcohol or nicotine (I'm quitting smoking again so I must keep reminding myself)...we can too!

                Keep me posted

HI Hippyman... I'm not a newbie... just a newbie to having THREE DAYS! WHOOPEE!

K9 - yes, I actually have three kiddos looking to me for love (two girls 8, 7) and a boy (2). It was the 8 year old.

Last night I had a hint of a craving. Thanks to God for Topamax and to remembing your wise words "A craving doesn't last as long as a hangover"! I really can't do this without topamax though. And ativan. I have NO WILL POWER.

Oh - and... sorry to hear you got back to smoking. You had many days! It's supposedly harder to quit than anything (aside of heroin!)
