Considering talking about Baclofen with Doc

I'm considering making an appointment with my doc to ask about Baclofen, but had two questions first.

    1. Based on everything I've read, though the drug has been around a long time, it seems that using it to treat addiction is new. How did you approach Baclofen with your physicians? Was it your idea or theirs? If it was yours, were they resistant to or skeptical of the idea in any way? Do you think it would be a good idea to take articles I've read with me - from the Guardian in the UK and Time magazine?

    and

    2. The articles I've read sound like it's almost too good to be true. It's a no-brainer that drugs affect everyone differently, but all the medical websites I've looked at (National Institute of Health, Mayo Clinic, etc.) give a long list of side effects, many of them contradictory - for example, drowsiness and confusion AND insomnia? What are the side effects that you all personally have experienced? Have any of you felt compromised by the side effects to the point that it's not worth it?

Thank you all in advance for your feedback.

I just started it yesterday. Never really made me tired.

I may have taken a little too much today because I am disoriented. But I am feeling good and quite hopeful.

I starting taking Bac after I read Dr. Amesen's book END OF MY ADDICTION. I bought it off shore. From day one I felt a difference in how it made me feel about alcohol. I guess the best way to describe it would be to say Baclofen took some of alcohols power over me away. When I take baclofen I have the ability to say NO to alcohol. I would never test it and see if I can get away with a drink or two. I no longer find the thought of drinking to have any appeal to me. I take the liquid bac that you can order from Home - Phoenix Research Labs . It would be a good idea to read thru https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...ead-50513.html

          aihflvt,

I had my first dr appt 12/12/12. I didn't have a dr so I asked a friend and she suggested an MD she knew who taught yoga and did cranial sacral work also. I called for the appt and said what I wanted. He agreed and so I started on 30 mgs/day. It's funny--I took Dr A's book and he remarked that he recognized it. He'd owned it, never read it and donated it!!

At my second visit I loaned it to him and he's scripted me for 60mgs/day and has now allowed me to go to 80 mgs/day. This may be as high as he'll go. I'll find out next week. I have ordered from Phoenix in case. He's a gentle soul who I highly recommend.

I see we live " somewhat" near each other. If you don't get a yes my dr is willing to script bac for alcohol (Your script will be for spasm.) if you present with a plan. You could always come down this way for an appt. PM me if you're interested.

And how much did you take on your first day?

First you have to read a lot about it. Print out the articles you can find about it, so you can give your doctor some homework in case he doesn't know about baclofen for alcoholism treatment.
You can find some articles on "my" thread 'Xadrian's baclofen experience', but there are many other threads with several useable links.

Don Quichotte (I'm pretty sure I just misspelled his nickname) also posted the conclusions of o 200 person trial.

After that, you hope the doctor will let you try. If not, see what other options you can think of.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.
