          spigot,

I'm happy to hear you've reached indifference. Congratulations! I agree with you about Dr L. When I called I told him I'd reached indifference at 80 mgs and he told me I hadn't followed the protocol and that I had to go to 240 mgs! The good news is he sent the script for 280 20 mg tablets with 2 refills! We spoke once after when he said to call his office when I was ready to set an appt.

          Again, I'm happy for you!

Wow, 230mg still seems to be my perfect dose. Went to Denver for Cannabis Cup this weekend, and had one beer! First vacation I've been on in a long time that I actually remember.

You may find that in time you can reduce this slightly, but if you are happy with it and comfortable with the SE's, then there is no need currently to bother. Just enjoy the newfound freedom.

If you decide to reduce, do it nice and slowly, and be on the lookout for cravings. When they return, you'll know you have gone too low, and you simply hop back up again. It seems to take about 4 days for an increase or decrease to filter through in terms of effectiveness, so keep that in mind as you try this.

                Baclofen questions

Hi..My 1st post..Oh Ihave used the devils brew (booze) all my life.
Now after spinal cord injury am taking Bclofen for relieving spastic effects.
question: How long before Baclofen begins to work? In Hospital for 4 months
I was given Baclofen starting from 5mg working up to 20..I now have no alcohol craving. whether its the accident trauma & time in hospital or Baclofen I can't really say. "After all isn't life about trial & error" as a way of arriving at answers?

Thanks bleep. Surprisingly, I'm having no side effects at all (other than the awesome affect on libido!) at 230mg/day. Think I'll stick with it indefinitely.

                    Baclofen questions

                    Welcome Gunney,

Yours is an unusual case. Open your own thread and provide some more information about yourself.

What is your current baclofen dosing? How much and at what times of the day? When will you be in a position to drink alcohol, if not already? And a lot more.

You find lots of very usable information here.

Here's a link to information for you and your doctors. This is the first time that a large group of alcoholics have been followed when they were taking baclofen. It will show your doctors that we are not part of the lunatic fringe.

Suppression of Alcohol Dependence Using Baclofen: A 2-Year Observational Study of 100 Patients

EDIT: Are you an alcoholic wanting to stop or a heavy drinker worried about baclofen interrupting the boozing?

                      Baclofen questions

I was mainly interested in how long does it, generally speakiing, take to kick in. I'm taking it for a spastic condition.Oh I drank alright but not since I went inot the hospital. Was here 5 months and didn't have any craving.. maybe cause of the injury trauma took center stage.. I waas home from hospital for a day and had 5 beers and went to bed without any reall desire for another.. woke up with no real desire..Might be the Baclofen.. only further trial and eror will tell.........I now take life one hour at a time and do appreciate so many "small things".. now.. I seem to place more importance now-a-days on what I used to overlook as "the small things".. things I overlooked like my health and a rainbow and such..........We get so wrapped up we forget the "small things".. like our loved ones znd such.......

                        Baclofen questions

Hi Colin.. I'm just outside Amsterdam.. thanx for your responseand the link..
No brevity but I heard of a person who said "I was drinking and took baclofen and my craving stoped
but I like to drink so I stopped taking Baclofen.. This I can relate to but as I mentioned I'm taking it for spastic condition.. I still enjoy a few cold beers.. A "truth"as I see i: .Life is short and pleasures are few.
Seema like everything one enjoyss is either illegal. immoral or un healthy.........The Gunney

                          Baclofen questions

Just wanted to report all is well. I think baclofen, for me at least, gets better once you hit your 'switch' dose and stay there. No side-effects, slight depression I've had all of my life is completely lifted, and I can finally drink socially and not care about alcohol otherwise. Haven't exceeded my four beers a week limit yet. In fact, I'd have to try really hard to drink four beers in a week. It's amazing how manageable life is without alcohol running it.
