Perhaps we should all start referring to it by its new name so that the robotic crawlers pick up on it. Apparently you have to type things like cure for alcoholism ameisen and Heal Thyself so the robots pick up on these things. Yes, no!?

Heal Thyself- New title for Ameisen's book
Someone said that Dr. Ameisen's book wasn't available as it was out of print. I found this so it seems it is still easily available and as an e-book but the name has changed: BARNES & NOBLE | Heal Thyself: A Doctor at the Peak of His Medical Career, Destroyed by Alcohol--and the Personal Miracle That Brought Him Back by Ameisen | NOOK Book (eBook), Paperback

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Heal Thyself- New title for Ameisen's book
If anyone is interested:
I'm not too fluent in copyright issues, but it is fairly common for a publishing house to believe they've made a mistake in their handling of a book. Whether it be paying too much for a book, printing a first run that's too large, or whatever. So the publisher, in this case Farrar, Strauss, and Giroux, sells the book to a smaller publishing house. In this case it's Sarah Chrighton Books, which is actually a division of F, S, and G itself.
I'm even murkier on the details here, but the deal doesn't include the original title or rights to the hardcover edition. The smaller house is just happy to have some business and try to recoup as much of their investment as they can (sort of like bill collectors, I guess :H). Which is why we have Heal Thyself, and it's in paperback.
Just wanted to throw all that out there in case anyone was suspicious or worried about why there's the EXACT SAME book with two titles. Nothing weird going on except money issues.
[EDIT: And yes, I bought both. So I can vouch for them being identical, with the exception of a reader's guide set of questions added to the back of Heal Thyself.]

Heal Thyself- New title for Ameisen's book
Thanks. I was a bit worried that it was just out of print. I thought it was a good read as well, in fact, it was one of the best books I have ever read. I finished it in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down.BACLOFENISTA

13 quid? Bollocks! It's not even available on the kindle. TBH chaps, I honestly don't see the need for anyone to read this book, or for that matter to treat Ameisen as some sort of demi-god. He found out what Baclofen could do, so good for him (and good for us) but you don't need to read the book to use Baclofen. He went about it the wrong way and now we know better. Yay to Baclofen and WooHoo to everyone who uses it to dump alcoholism."My fault, my failure, is not in the passions I have, but in my lack of control of them." Jack Kerouac

Heal Thyself- New title for Ameisen's book
eeehhh . . . I'm very nervous about this, IULL, but I beg to differ about the importance of reading Dr. A's book. Maybe because it saved my life.
I learned a LOT, from reading it. A lot of my friends who are not even alcoholics have learned a lot from reading it, too. And after 3 years and 4 months on this board, I've seen a pretty profound difference in results and experience between people who educate themselves about what they are embarking upon, and those who just "jump in," without that information.
I'm not saying it's any kind of holy grail. Neither is the "consolidated baclofen information" thread, or the "sweet success with baclofen" thread. Or the myriad other threads posted here that I have read; some of which have, literally, kept me out of the ER and saved me huge medical fees.
It IS interesting to me that last year I bought multiple copies for less that US$8.00. I just checked, and the price is twice that, now. Wonder what's up with that?"Wherever you are is the entry point." --Kabir
