    Want to try Baclofen

    Hey Guys!

I'm new to this site as of yesterday and I got some good advice in the "Newbie" threads.

I'm looking at trying Baclofen on my own without perscription here in the states. I have a big problem with Alcohol and don't want to drink anymore...I want to be normal again. However I have tried many times to stop drinking and always fail. I have high anxiety and drink because of it. It is a cycle I want to break!!! Going to the doctor is is not an option currently.

Any suggestions on dosage or methods to take Baclofen would be greatly aprreciated. I started taking B50 Complex and I am starting to work out again in hopes this will help too. I just need more advice. Thanks!

Home - Phoenix Research Labs This is the best source I've found. Baclofen saved my life and the lives of many others who needed help to say NO to alcohol. I'm not a Doctor and would never dream of giving anyone about doses advise. You can find all you answers on the med threads. Good luck and :welcome:

      Want to try Baclofen

      Thanks Hippyman!

I must admit I am a little nervous trying Baclofen. I have read very positive things about it on this site along with numerous others. However I have read some very scary things from posters on this site about taking it.

I hate taking pills for anything. I cant remember the last time I even took advil for a headache...years ago. I feel like Baclofen could help me rid alcohol from my life which I desperately want and need to do.

This Anexity is really taking a toll on my life.

Thanks in advance for any other comments.

I've had nothing at all bad happen with baclofen. The first day I took it I knew it would help me quit. I feel happy and relaxed. I finally feel FREE of the over whelming compulsion to drink. The only way you'll know if it's gonna help is to try it. I think many of the negative posts are "Drunken Trolls" who don't really want anything here but to cause trouble.

          Want to try Baclofen

          Hi, Tampa21,

Welcome. I'm new here too. I've been taking bac since mid Dec and it has been such a wonderful change. I didn't know I was anxious. Like Hippyman, I too felt an emotional change almost right away. It was like I was on acid (or so I've been told &#128529. I had so much time to stop and see everything. Until I found this site I thought everyone had this SE.

Anyway, my dr was cautious and 3 months later I'm at 80 mgs. I did have other SEs but it's all been worth it. I do have one or two glasses of wine every couple of weeks because it's a ritual with some friends, but when I'm drinking them I have no desire to get blasted.

I have bought liquid bac from the same source listed. The service and product is excellent.

Keep reading and asking and welcome to the journey!

            Hi Tampa21
I would suggest perusing and searching the existing posts on this topic.

It's all there. If you get some specific questions after that, do post them.

Also get a book like "Heal Thyself" or "End of my Addiction".

Take your time before you embark on this. There is a lot to learn and be sure of first.

If you do go down this road you much be sure you have plenty of bac on hand at all times and plenty stashed if you don't have a prescription. Even with a prescription you want to have reserves.

I cannot tell how bad your problem is so no idea how much of a dose you will need.

Again, research on this forum and read up. Don't just "wing it".
            Welcome

              Want to try Baclofen

A little background on my drinking. For the last 10 years I have been drinking 6-8 beers a night. In the last 2 years I have had a very tough go of it. A parent became terminally ill and I lost my job due to the economy...all this happened in a span of a week. It turned my world upside down and I compensated with even more alcohol. NOT COOL.

I can put down a case in a day and not even have the slightest hangover in the morning. What I do wake up to is tremendous anexity and guilt which in turn makes me turn back to the drink to take the edge off. I don't want to do this anymore...I want to be healthy again and get back to my old self. I'm only 30 years old damn it!!! Sorry just frustrated it has come to this...it just sneaked up on me over time.

You guys responding is giving me great hope. I know Baclofen is not a cure all and I need to have the desire and strength to get past this addiction. However it (baclofen) seems to help a lot of members on this site and I'm really excited and hopeful it will work for me too!

I again want to say thank you to all your responses everyone!!! I don't feel so alone anymore knowing others have gone thru this and are still fighting the fight. I kinda feel weak admiting I let a stupid thing like alcohol take over my life but you guys are giving me hope that I can take it back over!

              Thanks again!!

Is there a difference in effectiveness between the liquid vs pill forms of this drug? Also is cost any different?

                Want to try Baclofen

                Hi, Tampa21,

I know what you mean about contact here. I feel the same way--very grateful for all the folks here. I used to drink a bottle of wine a night alone. I wasn't wasted and I also wasn't living. When I was with friends I'd get blasted and be just this side of acceptable. My last straw was when I messed up one more relationship because of alcohol. Funny thing, I was reading The End of My Addiction at the time and had no idea it applied to me! Hahaha! Anyway I took a good hard look at me and decided on bac. I'd been sober years before with AA and RR but I stuck with neither. I'm sticking with bac.

As to prices, I paid $21.95 for 90 20 mg tabs of bac (no insurance at Publix) plus $100 for the dr visit. You can check the price of liquid bac. I use both but don't have a lot of experience with the liquid yet. They both seem the same to me.

                  Kronkcarr,

Thanks for sharing...it's nice to meet another semi-newbie to this site. Could you explain a little more on how bac made you feel? Was it immeadiate, as in taking the edge off or did it have to build up in your system? I hear everyone on here talking about a "switch"...a different dosage for everyone that suddenly makes them indifferent to Alcohol. My goodness that would be a miracle if that happened for me!

Anyways thanks for listening and I wish you continued success!

                    Welcome aboard Tampa21
                    You are not alone.

I have not bought the tabs in a while as I have a big stock and my scrip but if you do need them, riverpharmacy is a safe bet. It still takes about 3 weeks but price wise for tab they are among the best IMHO.

Don't expect the miracle overnight. I think there are a lot of characteristics that tie into how much and how long. Some have to get up to 300+ daily. Mine was 240. Some are much much less.

You will know when it happens or at least soon after.

Keep in mind the SE's are worse when you drink especially at the higher doses. Hang in there.

Get the scrip if you can.

                      Want to try Baclofen

                      Tampa,
I too was able to drink a case of beer a day (ugh) and I found my life turned upside down by alcohol. I started taking Bac in December of 2010 and hit my "switch" exactly two months later. I found that at first, bac made me very sleepy and somewhat nauseated/dizzy. Once I started building up a tolerance, I found a wave of relief from my anxiety (maybe when I hit 50-60 mgs/day?). It was a miracle to me, since I had lived with chronic anxiety my entire life. I found pretty early on that my desire to drink was lessened. That said, I continued to drink. I had some negative side effects (mostly the dizziness/nausea and forgetfulness) and quite a few positive ones (once I hit 120/day I experienced a lot of euphoria). I had very vivid dreams, some of which were so real that I wasn't sure what was a dream and what wasn't!

I fell into a pattern of drinking four beers a night. One night, about 3 days after going up to 190 mgs/day, I found that the beer tasted awful and I couldn't choke down the last two. The next day I had a horrible, pounding, raging hangover from those two beers. The thought of drinking made me want to puke! I went AF for the first time in many months that night, and I wasn't "white knuckling" for once. I really didn't want to drink! It felt so magical.

It's been two years since that day. I did go down with the bac too fast and fell back into daily drinking, but I eventually started taking more and that urge went away again. I know a lot of people suffer far worse side effects than I did, but for me it really was just a matter of taking the damn pills. My life is so much richer without that constant urge to drink. I can't even imagine picking up a beer in the morning like I used to. It wouldn't even occur to me. Even when I do drink now, there is no compulsion, no euphoria from the drink, and I will feel revulsion if I try to choke down very much. I've been taking around 140 mgs/day for some time. I still find myself somewhat forgetful (bac just does that) but it's a price I'm willing to pay for my freedom!

I get my bac from Dr. Levin. You can find his contact info on this site through a search. I asked him to prescribe my bac in 10 mg tablets rather than the 20 mgs he usually prescribes. The reason for that is that the 10 mg bac is covered under Walgreens' "generic prescription club" ($20/year) and is crazy cheap. I pick up prescriptions of 560 pills (which is 190 mgs/day X 30 days) and it costs $41--this lasts me well over a month.

Thanks COSGringo. I'm going to check out riverpharmacy tomorrow, thanks for the advice it is very encouraging.

Serenity- Thanks to you as well. Your story seems all to familar. I honestly hate to admit that I have begun having a drink sometimes in the morning when the anexity is too much to deal with. That is what got me to this forum though I guess. I was so mad at myself for drinking first thing when I woke up...I thought what the hell am I doing???

Anyways...a big thanks to everyone tonight. I will defenately be back posting with more questions and concerns. Thanks for your patience!

                            Want to try Baclofen

                            Hi Tampa,
I have been on liquid bac for 11 days. I ordered from phoenix research labs (Home - Phoenix Research Labs) and the quality has been fantastic and I ordered on Saturday and got the product on Monday. Not sure about cost differences. I have a script and will get it filled to have a back up, but I have read on here that liquid bac offers less side effects for folks. I am currently at 40 mg, and have had no real side effects. Just a little spacey, but I think that's because I am not hyper vigilant. I am relaxed, more patient, I don't get flooded with adrenaline all the time and most importantly, I am free from the compulsion to drink. This happened really soon -- maybe day two. I still have a few beers on occasion, but am also stringing together AF days. I was drinking 14 beers a day, wasn't hung over, and never appeared drunk. Good luck. Read the posts (old and new) on here. I would be very methodical about your titration schedule and not go up too quickly. Be patient. That will help you deal with whatever SEs you experience.

You're very welcome, yo and Tampa! Good luck with your journeys on baclofen. Never mind the trolls on here. Some people find the side effects to be crippling but I don't see any reason not to give it a try and find out if it works for you. :h
