    Baclofen USA

    Hi all

I have, as you know, set up a couple of sites to promote baclofen use and understanding and I have now tried to link them together so that eventually they merge into one useful site and perhaps help bring about some changes. Here is the link: Help with alcoholism | Baclofen USA Forum

If anyone has any ideas on how to take this forward I am all ears. What I was trying to do was make a one stop shop so that anyone looking for information could find as much as possible and get down to business. I also hope that some day we will get a breakthrough when the "powers that be", the press and medical profession wake up to this. A sort of "trigger". I wonder if there is any way of spreading this information. It is not a business so there is no reason for me to advertise it but I wonder what can be done via the internet to spread an idea or information about something like this??

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

I wish I knew how to help. I REALLY DO! This website and word of mouth is about the best we have right now. I'll never stop talking about the positive effects that baclofen has had on my life. I've even thought about going to AA meetings just to be able to steer those who are still struggling to stay sober to a medicine that just might save their life. I just don't think that AA people would listen. From my experience, many of them think their way is the only way. I say, what ever it takes to quit drinking DO THAT!!! It is just so frustrating to know how many could be helped and are dieing needlessly!:upset:

      Otter,

Your site looks great. It's nice and clean and the links work. I'll talk with some friends and see if we can come up with any ideas for you. Thanks for all you do.

        Otter,

Here's what I've come up with. I'm on Facebook and there are a few pages that may be interested: Truththeory (web site Truththeory.com), Truth Becons, Knowledge of Today (web site knowledgeoftoday.com) and maybe Didyouknow (web sites didyouknowblog.com, did-you-know.tumblr.com).

I'm waiting for a call back from a friend who'll brainstorm with me. Feel free to PM me if you need help.

Seeriously? You move to a different effing country and setup websites for the benefit of people on another continent and I feel like I'm busting my ass?

            I couldn't agree more Hippy :l

Otter, your site looks fantastic! I will pass along any ideas after pondering a bit. I think it's wonderful what you're doing btw, we need any/every resource available to conquer alcoholism. Thank you for all the much needed effort you're putting into our cause.

            All the best, P.

              Thanks all.

I came across some web sites about maximizing exposure on social networks. It says you have to find a "hive" or community and then spread the word. I think the first thing to do is to write a letter setting out what it is we are trying to do, like get people interested and using baclofen, spreading the word etc, and including the references to studies and the like. I think the idea is then to send it out to people and ask them to share it. I suppose Facebook does this but I don't like the idea of opening an account with my name all over it which Facebook requires. That is where I get stuck. How do you make an idea go viral?? I mean some guy does a stupid dance in Korea and he gets a few billion people dancing about like they have just got off a horse but we cannot figure out how to get a GP to read up on a medicine for a life threatening illness. There is something wrong somewhere.

                  Otter,

My friend suggests you start a page on Facebook. Not a business page but a not for profit page. I don't know about it but she says there's a difference. This way your name's not on it. Then start to link with the pages I suggested and others you find. She suggests you go on LinkedIn and set up a profile and look for different sorts of professions (addiction therapists, neurologists etc).

I'm wondering why Dr Ameisen's book isn't mentioned on your site. It'd be easy to link Heal Thyself with Amazon. I'd think this would be one of the major draws.

Let me know how it goes,

Thanks, I will look at the Facebook page. I wasn't aware it could be used for causes. I think that is the way forward. I will let you know how it goes. I will also post some more including Dr. Ameisen's book to the wordpress page. I think I need to do a very good letter but that is hard work so it may take a few days.

I am totally with you. So many lives could be saved. My problem is that I can't find anyone to prescribe Baclofen for me. After reading the book The End of My Addition, I was excited to hear about Baclofen. As I couldn't get a prescription for it, it was given a prescription for Campral instead and told that the clinic like to start at the thin edge of the web. I have been AF for over two months now, but also have been so in the past. I just want to end this alcohol addition the best way I can and cannot afford to drink again, so need the best help possible.

katherine, have you tried contacting Dr. Levin? He'll prescribe baclofen over the phone after a brief consultation.
