    Antabuse question...

Jeez - I wish I would have known about them at the end of March when I ordered. I went the 'way too expensive but totally worth it" route and had to wait nearly a month before they got here. Does anyone have experience with goldpharma? It looks from their website like this is a generic, not true brand-name Antabuse. Which is fine, but I just want to be clear that's why it's so cheap.
Well it's all right now. I've learned my lesson well. You see you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself.

      Antabuse question...

      Hi wobblehead and all!

Today is Day 1 for me and Antabuse. I went through my regular doctor; not quite clear why folks have difficulty 'admitting' such a thing to their doctor, but I understand the feelings that we have with regard to our alcohol use. With insurance, my Rx is 5 bucks a month.

I had been on Antabuse several times in the past, and had no bad reactions with perfumes, mouthwashes, etc. I did have a reaction when I chose to get off it last, and waited only about 7 days before my first drink. I felt hot, and I got a terrible rash on my face, neck, and chest. I was okay (like not puking or anything), but I certainly wouldn't go out and meet the neighbors or something looking like that.

To echo what many others have said here, it's a huge relief. I totally agree with those who say that by just making that step of taking the pill?it totally frees up your mind from the constant wrestling match about "should I?" "what if I can't refuse?" "what if someone offers me a drink?" "when do the stores open?" or "tomorrow sounds like a better day to start than today..." etc.

Hope that this communities comments have helped!

Wouldn't you need to experience the consequences of the Antabuse first-hand before it became a deterrent? Otherwise, it would potentially not be punishing enough for you to not use again.

          Antabuse question...

No, not at all. I went from not being able to resist taking the first drink or opening the bottle to not thinking about alcohol except fleetingly now. I don't like throwing up so I have no desire to test the antabuse at all.

I have a couple of things to add about craving after taking AB, well for me the minute I take the pill my mind actually gives a sigh of relief that it doesn't have to go thru the never ending torture of , when can I get it, where can I get it, can I have it in the AM if off work, how can I hide it when around family, and on and on. I actually have awful craving when not taking the AB and almost none the minute I take, my brain just seems to adjust somehow.

I've never had any reaction to any kind of food or product and I don't worry about that now.

Anyway, give it a try, I order it from River.
Playland, so you're happy with River? Are they Canadian? I'm on Campral, which is getting expensive given my lousy prescription drug plan and I've been looking at Canadian pharmacies. But then I saw a segment on the local news (I live in Florida - geezer central) about fly-by-night Canadian pharmacies sending counterfeit drugs. When the authorities turn up the heat, they just close up their cyber-storefront and disappear, and there's no legal recourse. But if you have a reliable track record with River, I might take the plunge. Sorry if this is a bit off topic - don't mean to hijack the thread.
In the middle of my life's journey, I found myself in a dark wood, as I had lost the straight path. It is a difficult thing to speak about, how wild, harsh and impenetrable that wood is. Just thinking about it recreates the fear. It is scarcely less bitter than death, but in order to tell of the good that I found there, I must tell of the other things I saw there. --Dante, paraphrased
