    It has been a while

    Hi Friends,
I haven't been here in a really long time - I miss my friends Its funny, how life can change when you want the change badly enough. The longer I go without drinking the less it is in my thoughts. For me it started with it dissappearing from my thoughts for a couple of hours, than a day - a week, a month, then never at all. February 10 2013 was my 3 year anniversary of being sober, I forgot all about it. It's surreal when something consumes your life for so long disappears to the point where it seems to have never been in your life. I truly believe that Baclofen saved me - and MWO and all my friends here. Strange - I haven't smoked for probably 10 years but given the choice of a beer or a cigarette and I would go for the cigarette every time. If someone told me that cigarettes are no longer bad for your health, I would stop writing right now and go buy a pack - but I will never say the same about alcohol - I have just lost all interest in it.

Anyway, enough rambling. I miss you all, keep fighting the fight and thank you everyone for everything you have done for me.:l

Thanks for dropping by. Its really great to hear you're doing well.

My life has also been turned around for the better with Bac. Just having minor relapses when I taper too low.

Would you mind letting me know what your dose has been like over the last few years?

          Dear RtoR
Thanks for giving us hope that we can get to a point where alcohol won't be an obsession and that sobriety will be a way of life. I needed to read this today!

              Dear Road,

Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I'm not there yet with AL but am 15 years smoke free and have no thoughts, cravings...nothing...and believe me, 20 years smoking, it became almost my second skin. :schmokin:

Could you share with me, if you are still taking Baclofen? If so what is your current maintenence dose?

I've emailed Road in the hope that he'll check back in. In the meantime, from recollection, and based on his previous posts here, he quit taking baclofen relatively shortly after he started taking it. (Months.) He was and is completely abstinent. And from recollection, I think it was 80mg that did the trick. I might have the facts slightly askew, but that's the gist. Hopefully he'll correct me and forgive me the transgression of telling his story.

Might be a good idea to use the advanced search function to look for his posts and threads. He has definitely posted about his experience several times in several places.

                    AL,
I apologize for not catching this sooner. I stayed at the switch does for about 8 months. I probably went down about 10mg per week. I wanted the decrease to be slow so that if "THOSE" feelings felt like they were returning, I would be able to go back up. The cravings/thoughts never returned. I never think about booze unless someone mentions it - zero interest. One thing I should probably mention though is that I switched at a very low dose - between 60-80mg. so coming off bac was not a very long process.
Just don't be in a rush to taper off - it may be beneficial to stay on until it cemented that your life and habits do not involve alcohol - like going out for dinner - working around the yard - anywhere that you incorporated alcohol - learn to do it without the thought that alcohol needing to be involved.

                      Hi RTR,

Not sure if you're still checking in but it's great to see Bac veterans check in and see the status.

Glad to hear you're doing well!

                      Cheers!

I believe that after about 9-10 months AF I tapered down and came off of bac - I haven't taken it for at least 2 years.
