Hey Bac, your right about all of that. After a few days of neurontin it takes ever increasing doses to be effective, thats why I dont take it anywhere close to everyday anymore even though I know its usually written for people to take everyday. What I have found is that neurontin is best for withdrawal from other meds, it is very good for baclofen withdrawal as well. I have gotten on and off of neurontin more times than I can count. Ive found that what helps is to come down only about 50 to a 100 milligrams every three days. For a 300 mg capsule I come down about a fourth of a capsule every three days and that makes things pretty smooth and trust me I have bad tapers off of everything so Im sure this would probably work for you too. They tend to reccomend coming down off neurontin a little too fast and Ive found this to be about right.

I also supplement with magnesium, gaba and L-glutamine which is the precursor to gaba and it helps alot with the taper as well.Anytime I feel like Im starting to panic and have withdrawal effects in between dosage drops, I just go and take an extra 50- 100 mg or so.If you feel like your not doing so well at a dosage drop, then just go back up 50-100 mg for a few more days and then try it again- your body will let you know the rate to go.

I now use neurontin for baclofen tapering and it has been a godsend, but I try not to take neurontin more than two to three days max a week( I only use it the first couple days when I first drop my dose of baclofen) or I know I will become dependent again on the neurontin. The key is taking it slow but once you know how your body reacts to it you will get better and better at managing it.

Really? The overwhelming consensus both here on MWO and in the medical literature is that neurontin is a godsend. Few if any SEs, and it's a marvel for nerve pain, anxiety, and depression. It works almost instantaneously, too, as opposed to other antidepressants. The only real downside being the very short 1/2 life. And with that said--the short 1/2 life, there really is no 'build up.'

Sorry to hear that Baclofan and Tru have had negative experiences, but those just don't seem to be the norm.

So Tess, 1) why do you want to stop, and 2) just like anything else, go slow and take it easy and I'm sure you'll be fine.

          Hey Tess,

          1) What are you taking neurontin for, and is it helping? Have you noticed that the effects have lessened due to 'tolerance'? Have you noticed yourself overdosing due to 'massive build-up'? And why do you want to stop?

          2) After you've 'googled a bit,' go and actually read the medical literature that's cited in Wikipedia, which is apparently what baclofan read. You'll see that the articles cited are individual case studies--not the result of trials or observed patterns or anything like that. So then just ask yourself, of all the people prescribed neurontin out there, are these case studies representative of what will happen to me. And then, like with anything else, take it nice and slow.

Oh, and please forgive any typos here, I'm writing on my stupid phone.
