    Weaning!

I am tapering off AL. Had only had about 200 ml today and usually have about 500. does any one know if muscle relaxers help with withdrawl symptons?

To my knowledge, no. Though baclofen is a muscle relaxer and does help with withdrawal. If you can continue weaning off AL, that's going to work great though. I'd just end up getting drunk again trying to do that. But sounds like you're doing pretty well. If you're concerned about drinking too much, try sticking to beer or making sure to use more and more mixer.

Baclofen has been proven to be nearly as effective as diazepam in treating AWS. From this study: Baclofen in the treatment of alcohol withdrawal syn... [Am J Med. 2006] - PubMed - NCBI

Best of luck, although I understand this is best done under medical supervision.

interesting diazepam is what is normally used in hospital detoxing but then you have to ween off of it,not nice,i read a medical article on withdrawl and they suggested lots of certain vitamins, noting most people with alcohol related ailments dont eat rite worked for me and i still take the vitamins:H

Librium is probably the better benzo if one can get it. Most docs would offer that up if you were detoxing.

Why librium? It has a long half life, even longer than diazepam. I don't recall any kind of "high" from it. It helps you from getting seizures which is key. I sadly have 1st hand experience with that one.

There is a detox forumula using vitamins contained in Seven Weeks to Sobriety. You use L-glutamine, vitamin C, various b vitamins, L Tryptophan, Calcium Magnesiurm, Amino Acids, all in staged doses over two days, then you start analysing your nutritional needs.

Baclofen can be used for withdrawal but if you stop drinking as a result of losing the desire to drink you can have severe DTs which then require Benzos.

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"
