    Wikipedia- baclofen

    Hi

I just want to let people know what kind of a game this is. I spent days in discussions on Wikipedia to get baclofen on the Alcoholism page as a medical treatment. I was able to satisfy quite stringent requirements they have there just to get a few sentences approved.d

    Then, hey, guess what!.

Someone went in to Wiki and removed it.

Seriously, what kind of jerk would do that? I reinstated the entry and will keep an eye on it. I had to go through hoops to get it on, and you have to leave an edit trail but the idiot who removed it just erased it without even mentioning why he did that.

Sick and twisted piece of tish if you ask me.

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

    Hi Otter,

    Thanks for all you do.

I don't know how Wikipedia works but is there anything we can do to help?

    Cheers!

I don't think so. I was warned about this. There are people who have fixed ideas or agendas and I suppose they just go into a page and mess it up.

Keep a watch on the page, Otter, and keep a discussion going on the Talk page. I'm doing my dissertation (partly) on Wikipedia, and it's as much that people are territorial, petty assholes with these articles as it is about the topic itself. Newbies tend to just get edited out. But if you can point to enough valid research, you should be able to convince them that bac is becoming an accepted treatment.

Or try the wording. You could just say that in spite of the lack of research or drug company involvement, people are beginning to self-prescribe bac in noticeable numbers (that recent French article comes to mind, the one that pointed out the increase in bac sales). Or something like that.

Thanks for doing what you're doing, Otter.

I re edited it and informed the other editor and it is back on. I am sure it will stay there because the editor agreed that it should be on and also said the Baclofen page needs updating, which I would do but if I had more time and energy.
