    Baclofen just for anxiety

Is there anybody on here that use Bac just for anxiety and not the 'switch.

If so what dose do take ?

And how soon does it kick in ?

Thanks. Sorry about the brevity, but I'm having awful panic attacks. Horrible sicky anxiety in chest and a head that I want to rip off my shoulders, right now

    Baclofen just for anxiety

    Hi Lea

I'm here for the switch. But at 100mg hubby told me I seemed a lot less anxious. I'm looking forward to the day when I can get back down there.

    All the best

There are better meds, IMO, for anxiety alone than bac. A doctor can provide you with something that targets anxiety exclusively.
In the middle of my life's journey, I found myself in a dark wood, as I had lost the straight path. It is a difficult thing to speak about, how wild, harsh and impenetrable that wood is. Just thinking about it recreates the fear. It is scarcely less bitter than death, but in order to tell of the good that I found there, I must tell of the other things I saw there. --Dante, paraphrased

Lea, I too am anxious but am doing bac to stop drinking (but so curious about how anxiety will change). Highly recommend the Baclofen/Anxiety thread on here, haven't come across an 'anxiety only' case there but am relatively new here and still making my way through that thread

          Budda,

How much were you drinking before you quit? Anxiety is often a by product of coming off a binge and will ease up as you get further from your quit date. Don't try to medicate something that may well go away.

My concern is that you are dealing with AWD symptoms and not just panic attacks. What day sober is this? How much were you drinking when you quit?

Have you checked your blood pressure? Are you experiencing shakes, DTs, anything like that?

              Hi

              Hi all
Cant move my post. Grurr. It's on Baclofen and Anxiety today.

I may not able to afford Bac forever unless I get a script. I know you just cant stop it so I'm scared to just go for it. It kept me sober 10 months. I only stuck my toe in then. i gave up cos I can't afford priv scripts.

Anyway my situation is there on Bac and anx.

Cinders, this is different, honestly not withdrawals. I hope you read
              my other post.

              Joan Thanks

Lea, saw your post on the Anxiety and Baclofen thread, but responding here so you are all in one place . It sounds as if you are going through a real rough time and I can empathize with your anger with the past. But, also, I can see really positive stuff in your story - I am so impressed at 7 months sober and previously 8 years, and your consistency is trying to figure it all out. Try not to be hard on yourself about stopping and starting - it is an occupational hazard for us all, eh?

On more practical stuff, I am not familiar with the NHS, but wondering if you asked your GP for a referral to Dr Chick would the cost be covered? If not, might you email him and ask for advice, specifically whether he knows of a GP in your area where you could get a script?

As to your big Q, 'Is Baclofen good for 'just' anxiety , I would so like to know the answer. Like alcohol, Baclofen has anti-anxiety properties but that effect seems to come (in animal studies at least) at the cost of slowing the brain and body down. There are number of large scale trials in progress including one in the US on baclofen for people who have a diagnosis of both anxiety and alcoholism ... we can only wait and get on with our own experiments

                  Budda,

Here's the link to your other thread so others can read it also.

I recall Otter or someone else here talking about Bac for anxiety, hopefully they will chime in.

Since you know the drill fairly well, , I am quite sure you know about the whole anxiety, drinking cycle.

My psychiatrist recommends I stay sober for several months before deciding what meds I may or may not end up on for my panic attacks/anxiety, etc.

She did give me some meds for the short term. I had to beg her for the Antabuse I use to stay sober while I work on all this, but it does nothing for anxiety or panic attacks.

Lavande also has mentioned a OTC homeopathic help for anxiety. You might want to pm her. Several MWOers have tried it an love it. If it doesn't conflict with current meds, you might want to give it a try.

I hope you find your way out of this nightmare quickly. However, keep trying and stick with it. The only failure any of us face is giving up entirely.
