Has any one on here seen Dr Chick for Baclofen.

After yesterdays drinking I decided to bite the bullet and do this right.

I have an appointment with Dr Chick on the 4th June.

I'm not too bad this morning. I only had one bottle and did not start on more this morning, thank God.

    Dr Chick for Baclofen

    Hi

I'm a newbie and this is the first time I have ever posted on a forum. Just wondered how your appointment with Dr Chick went, as thinking of making an appointment myself. Did he prescribe Baclofen to you? Are appts with him very expensive? Does he then write a letter to your GP suggesting they prescribe it on the NHS off-license? If you have started taking it, is it helping?

Any advice would be fab as I'm really struggling at the moment and I'm willing to try anything!

    Best wishes

I believe our fellow member Otter might know him. You can find Otter here or on Baclofen for Alcoholism and Other Addictions - Baclofen for Alcoholism and Other Addictions

        Hi Welsh Bird,

I am in the UK. I have an appointment to see Dr Chick on the 8th July. I will let you know how I get on.

His fee's are ?250.00 per session but he does follow it up with emails. I have spoken to him on the phone and he sounds caring I told him that I am already on baclofen so he is very keen to speak to me!

I think Emily has already seen him so she may have more info. By the way baclofen has worked for me but I just wanted to be legit and get a prescription.

        Good luck

        Caro

          Hi

I went to see Dr Chick just over 2 years ago, his appointments were a little cheaper then at ?200. At the time I'd been suffering some very bad side effects on HDB, and went to ask him what I should do. After asking me some questions about my drinking, and experience with baclofen he told me in his opinion HDB wasn't for me. He did suggest I try abstenance again using the many tools I'd already had some success with. I then asked him if he'd consider prescribing Naltrexone as per the Sinclair Method. He agreed to do this and sent a couple of repeat prescriptions at a later date. Once I had proof my units were reducing I took this to my GP who then asked me to see a prescribing psychiatrist attached to the Drug and Alcohol team.

This Dr wrote a letter to my GP heavily recommending she prescribe and also advising there were no known long term effects of Naltrexone in the doses I was using (50mg per day before drinking). My GP has gone on to put Naltrexone onto repeat prescription for me, and is very pleased it worked.
I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.

            Thanks everyone for your replies.

Caro- great to hear that it is working for you and would love to hear how your appointment with DR Chick goes.

UKBlonde- thanks for talking about your experience and good to hear that DR Chick was helpful and Naltrexone is working for you. Good to know that there is another option if the Baclofen doesn't work for me.

I'm thinking of booking an appointment with him very soon as after 3 months sober I'm back to square one and drinking every day.

Will keep you updated with my progress!!

My opinion was that he's open to a wide range of treatments, so won't railroad you just because he thinks he knows best for you.

I think it's important we make our own choices, find our own solutions.

                Hi

I saw Dr Chick in March, I think it was, he charged ?220 for his session. He is such a lovely man and will put you very much at ease. I've only had to see him once, he hasn't suggested another face to face with him and I'm hoping he doesn't want one soon as I'm skint just now!

I send him emails when I need a new prescription and he always posts the prescription the day he receives the email. You can also phone him if you need to, the initial fee also includes follow up emails etc. I have asked him not to write to my GP but wish I had the guts to allow him to just write to them as NHS would be more convenient but I worry about life insurance etc.

He will go through all the medications that can help you, it was bac I was going for and can remember being terrified in case he suggested something else would be better for me but he went for bac and I have had amazing results. Good luck and let us all know how you get on.
