A Shout Out to the Newbies

    And yes, the Lurkers, too.

OK so this is not going to be nearly as amazing as Windy's two threads to the Newbies and Lurkers, so at this time I'd like you to drastically lower your expectations. With that being said, a lot of new folks have arrived here in the last couple days and weeks. :welcome:

That welcome sign was kind of a cheeseball thing to do, but whatever. Anyway, my point is that one of the most consistent pieces of advice that you'll get from those who've been around a while is "read around MWO as much as you can." But WTF does that mean? MWO is enormous; what should I be reading?

One of the quickest ways to figure that out is to click the word "Views" at the top of that far right column next to the threads. That will show you all of MWO in the order of descending views for each thread. In other words, it's a popularity contest. Murphyx's and Ne's threads are right there at the top, and they are so long they each take a solid week of pretty hardcore insomnia to get through. But if you have two solid weeks of pretty hardcore insomnia, they are a godsend.

After that, obviously you need to read https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...ead-50513.html

And you can always hang out here: https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...bac-48420.html.

Basically what happened is that about three years ago now, a large group of people were all titrating up on bac together, all aiming for indifference, and all posting progress threads. So that's where you get those long, day by day conversations that have like 20 or 30,000 views. It's kind of a pain to slog through them (or really, really fun, depending on your point of view), but there is a wealth of information contained therein. And if you want to know what you might expect, if you're going for indifference and thinking you might need to get into the higher doses to do so, this is where you'll find just about all anybody knows.

And, for what it's worth, some of my personal favorites, that I don't think get enough love, are https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...oad-52206.html
    https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...nce-42779.html
    https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...ced-47077.html
and then the immediate continuation of that one https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...nce-47667.html

Of these, bleep I know you're still around, so if for any reason you'd like me to edit yours out of this list, please let me know. Here, PM, carrier pigeon, or however.

Thanks Stuck. I will try that search approach. It does seem like a lot of fantastic collaboration happened back then and I have been trying to figure out a way to tap into the information. No need to re-invent the wheel!

Wow, I just read through my starting thread here, what a headcase! Took me back. Tonight, I poured a glass of wine, but threw it out a couple of hours later and had tea.

      Baclofen works.

Leave them there, it's no bother. I'm touched you even mentioned them.

When I joined there was LoOp, Bill P, Terry K and a few others mainly starting out. It was painful. I set up BaclofenUK Home to try to put the ideas onto a site where everyone could find them. I didn't want to look like a meglomaniac so I kept it as a UK site which I think put people off so now I have started the USA site and am putting a lot of info there.

Hopefully, between the two sites people will find the information that they are looking for about the treatment.

        Best wishes:welcome:

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

I know this was only three months ago, but there are some new folks that may find it helpful. Check out StuckinLA's post up top for some good info & threads to read.

            Also-
The search function on this site is kind of useless. If you are looking for something specific, use Google instead. I have found that including the words "my way out" in the Google search field in addition to whatever I'm looking for, like "baclofen taper" for example, will get me quite a few relevant results.

            And one more thing-
There is a good amount of research that has been nicely organized in a central location in Lo0p's forum at Baclofen for Alcoholism and Other Addictions - Baclofen for Alcoholism and Other Addictions under the "Research Related to Baclofen Section". I think everyone is welcome to post there too, so it is another option.

            Oh yeah - Baclofen works!
