Hi, I need a little bac advice. Please

Hi all, hope everyone`s Bac journey is going well.

I have been on Bac now for 5 months & am now at 110mg a day. Over this period I have proberbly had 10 cans of Beer. This is going from 1/2 a ltr of vodka and a few strong beers a day. No I don't have any real cravings for alcohol maybe a couple of fleeting thoughts daily. So I feel I must titrate a little further until these small occasional thoughts have gone also.

I`m wondering now is there a range like between 160 - 300 mg at which "switch" is achieved, as I do think I maybe getting close. I recently worked away from home for a week and figured I would test my progress & will power now I have been tacking Bac for a while now. Anyway I brought a bottle of my favourite tipple JD & coke and pored my self a large drink. To cut a short story even shorter. I didn't feel like finishing the first drink & only drunk half before leaving it until the next morning when I poured it away I also poured the bottle away in the morning to. What a waist of ?15.
5 months ago I would of deeply regretted pouring the bourbon away, although it would of been drunk before that happened anyway.

This episode has given me great hope on my Bac journey and has encouraged me to press on hard with this treatment.

At the moment I also need to know, how long would I stay at the switch dose, if & when accived, before starting to titrate down to a maintenance dose. The last thing I wont to do is stop that dose to early and mess up the hard work that we are all putting in.

    Many, many thanks in advance.

Hi, I need a little bac advice. Please

If you've had 10 beers in 5 months, I'd say you're there already. But that's just me. As for the switch dose, who knows. It's different for everybody--and the thoughts about AL are different for everybody. I mean, we're on a message board for alcoholics. All we talk about is booze and drinking, so of course you're thinking about it...

It seems like 240, 280, and 320 are really common for the higher switches, but some people hit it a lot lower. As for how long to stay there, there's prescribing guide that recommends 2 or 3 months before slowly coming down. And it does not have any guidelines for how to come down or how low, btw, because nobody really knows.

Hi, I need a little bac advice. Please

      :welcome:

I agree with Stuck. You already seem to be in a good place. You may not need to go much higher...Or you may already be there. You will have to see if this doses continues to work.

Occasional thoughts with no real follow through sounds like a great place to be. The higher doses are necessary when thoughts and actions combine. Keep in mind, the higher doses also have more SEs and take longer to come off. I also understand 2-3 months at the effective doses is the current advice.

Hi, I need a little bac advice. Please

        Thank you

Thanks both for your advice, I am at 150mg a day now & feel just to be on the safe side pushing through to 180 - 200mg. I am hopefully only planning on doing this once so might as well make sure. Also been given ispp anti anxiety pills which help a lot.

        Thanks again Heavenly D

          Hi, Heavenly D,

I agree with Stuck. It seems you've hit your switch--BUT--it's what you're comfortable with. I switched quick at 80 mgs. I would have gone up higher if needed, but I have no desire to take more bac then necessary. Sometimes a thought of wine will cross my mind (Today at lunch I had a beer and my son was amazed because I don't drink beer!), but I don't crave more and more.

I stayed at 80 for almost 2 months. Then I came down and I'm amazed that 40 mgs works like a charm!

Keep us posted about what you decide and how you're doing!!

Hi, I need a little bac advice. Please

What would be different if you went up even more? If you don't want a drink and can't finish a drink even when you pour yourself one...Isn't that indifference?

If you still think about booze, and wonder if it would be fun to get drunk, or if the indifference is real, you're in the same place the vast majority of us are when we don't drink all the time anymore!

Congratulations! Welcome to the other side!
