    Baclofen authorized in France!!!

    a news from an hour ago! (03-06-2013 / 12,30 Europe time)

    finally the Baclofen will be authorized in France for the alcohol addiction problems!
    in the end of the month...

    YESSSSS!!!!

    it's called RTU and it means "reccomandation temporaire d'utilization ", kind of "temporary fully admitted" for prescribing baclofen to treat alcool addiction!

    It's a big winning point thanks to the association "Association Baclofene", to the prescribing doctors, to another Association (soon the link) and to all baclofen users... ;-)

    Here is a rudimentary translation of the French press release:

    Baclofen, a drug being tested to treat alcohol dependence, is expected to be given a temporary recommendation to use (RTU) by the end of the month, Dominique Maraninchi, the director of the French drug agency ANSM [Agence Nationale de S?curit? du M?dicament et des Produits de Sant?], said on Monday.

    Speaking at a conference in Paris on the role of Baclofen in the fight against alcoholism, Mr. Maraninchi said "more knowledge" is needed about the effectiveness of this drug and that the RTU is valid for three years. The RTU is a measure that can be taken by ANSM when there is no appropriate authorized alternative treatment for a given condition. It may not exceed a period of three years.

    Two clinical trials are underway for Baclofen [in France], one, the Bacloville study, authorized in April 2012 by ANSM, and the second, the Alpadir study, initiated last October. The latter aims to test the efficacy of high dose baclofen (180 mg/day in 3 divided doses) for the maintenance of abstinence in alcohol-dependent patients.

    Baclofen has been used in France for forty years as a muscle relaxant marketed by Sanofi and Novartis. Baclofen is already prescribed in France to about 50,000 excessive drinkers. According to figures from the [French] National Health Insurance Fund, off-label prescribing increased by 29% last year.

    France has 1.5 million people who are alcohol dependent and 3.5 million people suffering from excessive consumption.

        High School French?

        Actually, I ran the French press release through Google Translate and then cleaned the result up with...High School French.

        Google Translate is an amazingly good application. Its not 100%, but with some knowledge of the language being translated it is pretty easy to get to the correct meaning.

            Absolutely wonderful news. Thanks for sharing.

            Not only does this mean those who can tolerate HDB and get to their switch can be saved, it also means that big pharma may well do serious research into finding a more suitable drug to treat alcoholism without the serious SEs, thereby opening the door for others to be saved from a horrible death by this drug, alcohol.

              one cool direction can be sure for example this one...
              ...CGP7930 when co-administered with baclofen enhances its potency...

              meaning that with 30mg u can have the same super good effects of (maybe) 150mg, without the SE !!!
              would be really cool and i'm hopeful that tomorrow (soon) nobody will die anymore of alcoholism like today we dont die for a stupid infection (thanks to antibiotics)...

              that's great and i'm sure that the news will arrive soon even to US...
