    Abstinence Challenge

Emily, thanks for posting. Hang in there. I know what u r talking about with the fear of even thinking about drinking. I remember when the thought would throw me into a complete physical panic attack. It would not stop until I had about 6 drinks. I don't get that anymore for sure. I don't have any beer in the fridge anymore but when I did recently, the sight of it would not affect me one way or the other. U r still at a relatively small dose so keep taking it. Today is one week for me... Still going well.

      Hang in there Emily,

For me, willpower will only last for so long, then it's back to my default mode, which is.....when and where is the next drink? My challenge is to turn my thinking around to gratitude thinking, rather than deprivation thinking. I love getting hammered and disappearing, but I also love it on those occasions when my senses are alive from following what I love, and that old chestnut, happy, meaningful human interaction.

Which path do I want more? I'm going for the senses fully alive road for now. Not scary, exciting!

      Wishing y'all a safe weekend.

        Emily,

I did have those electrical jolts. Mine started after I mowed the lawn in the heat. They started in my hands and went half way to my elbows. I felt I'd drop whatever I was holding. They passed in a few days and haven't returned. After that I had a weird buzzing in my hands that lasted 5 days or so and disappeared.

All of you on this challenge are so cool. I've read each day and I'm really happy you got together to support each other. Keep on!! 🌞

Sorry to report that I drank on Friday. I had no problem going AF on Saturday.

Plan is (in fact already is progress) to go back up to 180. I should be in a better position at this level.

Congrats to all who are hanging in there.

I did not sign myself up for the challenge, because I don't want t loose my money.
(In fact I don't want to commit myself at the moment "wanting to try how many days I can go without beer"), but I'm proud to report that I have been AF for 10 days without a problem and without a single craving.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

Read this over an hour ago. I'm still grinning about it from time to time. Nice job JD. How are your SEs now? Are you sleeping any better at night? The Switch is still 100% for me. Day 7 AF and it's effortless. I'm even laying off of the AF beers now!

                  Hi Mary-

I have a couple of questions for you and not because I have answers, mind you. I am just curious.

You switched at 230mg and then dropped gradually to the 160mg level, if I remember right. Did your mood lift at all when you dropped down?

How are you doing in terms of cravings at the lower dose?

I know there are others trying to find the balance betweern maintaining indifference and keeping the blues at bay. I am also pretty sure there are folks out there who have been able to get through this exact problem. Consider starting a thread on it. You might draw somebody with experience out of the woodwork that can help everyone.

You are going to get this figured out!

My SEs aren't as bad, but they didn't completely go away like I hoped. Breathing isn't scary but it's weird. I am so knocked out all the time. I try and catch up on sleep but it doesn't really help to sleep all day. I am not so quick to drive places because I am so drowsy.

My new SE is the worst one yet... I have this like sweet metal taste in my mouth. OMG it is sooooo freakin annoying. I noticed this morning when I put the pills in my mouth that they kinda tasted like that. They may not... it may be that taste is just so prominent in my mouth that I think everything tastes like that.

Got that taste in my mouth today, actually. Plus I burnt the sh*t out of my tongue on a burrito tonight and that's making it worse.

                      (5 minutes later)

I just brushed my teeth and that helped with the metal taste. (Big improvement on the burrito breath, too.)

                        Oh and Xadrian-

Glad you stopped by today. I started reading your thread earlier because I was wanting to better understand how and why you stopped taking baclofen. Thanks for sharing that in detail. I also liked your story quite a lot.

I'd like to brush my teeth but its not that time of year yet.

Actually dude. My toothpaste just tastes the same. I brush the hell outta my tongue but it doesn't help. I've been like sucking the inside of my lips like crazy. I wish it tasted like chips and salsa. Some Uncle Julio's would be nice.

Grey goose and cranberry juice with a lime. Not in any danger of having one but what a refreshing drink. I'm just talkin....

No trigger-alert here, that's what I drink at the bar everyday! Well, without the Grey Goose. :upset:

Now, a nice, big tumbler of Jameson, that's refreshing along with a light ale, in a cool and dark hole-in-the-wall, after a hot day under the sun.

I love you guys on this thread!

The grapevine is out that I handle my booze now. I'm starting to get calls again to go out for some drinks. Man I hadn't gotten those in a while. I'm avoiding them until this month is done I guess. NOW u wanna drink with me? No way u gotta be down to go out when there's piss on my pants and cops involved.
