    Abstinence Challenge

Juan BH;1542014 wrote: Nice job on the 90 days Stuck!

Skullbaby, going AF for a bit really helped me realize I was indifferent and tbh, I probably overshot my switch dose. I have been able to back off from 240mg to 180mg over the last 6 weeks and the bac is still working.

I agree that the AF beer is not quite the same and don't drink it warm cause that's nasty. The stuff used to just piss me off when I drank it pre-baclofen. Now it serves a purpose in helping me relax after a day of work or whatever. It is hard to change everything at once when your life has been centered around drinking for so long. That's mostly why I drink 3-4 AF beers in the evenings. I get to keep my little ritual going and I think they taste pretty good.

Edit: the brand of AF beer makes a huge difference for me btw. Odouls and Sharps (US brands) taste more like beer to me than some of the others. Oh and I think I'm at13 AF days again! I'm in for another 28
At the risk of being a bit of the Lone Ranger here I want to put in an enthusiastic vote for AF beer. I think I am way beyond any kind of craving (quit in Jan 2008) now...I actually drink a couple AF beers every evening because...

    (1) they in fact do taste good (to me). From the perspective of taste and price, I like O'Doul's best. On taste alone (but its pricey where I am) I like Beck's.

    (2) AF beer has the benefit of being pretty low in calories.

    (3) I like to sit down and relax before dinner and eat some cheese and crackers or veggies and a cold drink is complementary and relaxing. I was in the habit of having a few real beers and I just substituted the AF beer.

    (4) Many (or most) of the alternatives are high in high fructose corn syrup or, just as bad, artificial sweetener. So I try to avoid colas and so-called energy drinks.

    (5) iced tea and lemonade are good but its easy to go overboard on the sugar and they don't have the appealing crispness and bitterness of a cold beer, even an AF beer

    (6) V-8 is good, but very high in sodium. I get tired of it after a few days.

    (7) Fruit juice is good, but I like it better in the am. BTW, they say that much of the goodness of fruit juice is eliminated if you drink a juice made from concentrate. its also more filling (to me) than beer.

    (8) Water is good for us and if its hot or I'm a little dehydrated it can be appealing, but its pretty boring, too.

So, by process of elimination, I end up many nights drinking an O'Doul's or two. I also like the taste of it with food.

    Just my 2 cents.

Day 2 sober. Last night was pretty easy thankfully.

Also, as for drink alternatives, I'm also posting over in the AF August thread, were other MWOers are posting good AF drinks.

I slam AF beer a lot--and will continue to do so--but I also wholeheartedly support it. There's something about drinking something that tastes vaguely like a beer out of a real beer bottle that just hits the right little spot in my brain, and it is super relaxing.

I got tired of always drinking club soda and juice at the bar, and I quite drinking soda back in 2006 or so. So unless there's an occasion for a really good craft soda, made with cane sugar, I almost never drink that kind of thing.

I'm not on bac, and far from indifferent to booze, so O'Doules it is. And I actually find myself looking forward to one or two at the bar in the evening, and am then able to go home and do whatever for the rest of the night. If it's been a really stressful day, I'll move on to AF wine at home. :H And if someone would PLEASE make an AF Jameson already, I will nominate that person for a Nobel prize in like general humanitarian goodness or something.

I toyed with the idea of tall cold glass of wheat beer with a lemon wedge for a while at the sushi place last night. Good thing I re-upped on the challenge!

C'mon man. I can give you the ip addy and login credentials to my IP cam. We can have a beer together tonight and you can watch me drink it while were on the phone.

What do you want me to wear? :bigwink: anties:

Shit...I can try to drink 5 and we'll see where it goes from there! :b&d:

Or maybe we could just have a barbecue next weekend with a couple of O'Douls.

Day 3. Also day 1 of Antabuse (125mg, half a pill) just to really take away the "will I or won't I" conversation in my head. I'm committed, now!

Trying to keep the perspective that sober life is actually much more fun and enjoyable than the alcoholic one!

I just got off the phone with Juan. He's got no comeback for my post. So he's just going to continue on posting as though I never said a thing.

That doesn't necessarily mean that tonight isn't "going down" though.

No it's not happening dude. The wife has expressed a firm disapproval of me borrowing her panties for this. Besides where would that leave Skullbaby? I should get my 28 when you get 30 so there won't be any hurt feelings this time.

                        Abstinence Challenge

After 52 days, I dropped out of the challenge:
Yesterday evening I drank 3 beers of 22 Oz.

The counter is at 0 again. This time, I won't make 30 days, because at the end of August I will have a vacation of 2 weeks, visiting some friends abroad. And there will be some drinking involved.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

Day 4. Glad I threw the Antabuse down my gullet yesterday because that evening I went to a family get together and could feel my resolve cracking. Luckily I'd taken away any choice.

Family events used to be real tough for me, too. I'd either be drunk and regret it later or not drink and be pretty miserable. Hang in there SB. It'll get better.

Day 5 AF. Going on an all-day goof-off day with the gf. I would DEFINITELY have gotten drunk on our outing if not for committing to this 30 day stretch.
