    Abstinence Challenge

Yeah man. Well, yesterday was day 1 quitting smoking... we'll see how today goes, so far so good. Yeah I know i'm quitting a LOT of shit at the same time... Definitely trying to keep in mind that the lack of cigs is likely the cause of today's craptacular mood.

i know what its like to quit multiple things at once, i have the one horse at a time approach to these things. Youve been AF long enough so its a great idea to get rid of the cigs now. Ever thought transitioning to an ecig for a period of time? I imagine it would be much easier to control the dose and reduce it slowly over time.

I missed posting for the day by half an hour, but it was an AF day, so that makes it an AF week.

Skull, the first time I did inpatient rehab, about 15 or so years ago, one of the nurses told me it would be a good time to quit smoking. I had only been there a day or so, so I rudely told her to piss off.

A couple of years I quit for several years, and then started back. The last time I did inpatient I asked the Dr for some kind of anti-smoking meds. He said to not even think about quitting for a while, I didn't need the stress while trying to get sober.

I did quit about 3 years ago, but I was drinking at the time. Had a way to deal with the stress.

You've been AF long enough that it should be a positive affirming to put cigs down. And I've heard that, like Neo said, the ecigs can help with the transition. Good luck.

Thanks guys- I'm getting through it with the help of some nicotine lozenges for cravings. Feeling pretty positive today though.

Glad you're feeling better Skull. It looks like a nice Sunday ahead for me... go to the gym, watch some football (the North American flavor) then get some errands done and relax before the work week. I also have as personal project to work on that I've been putting off, but I know will be rewarding once I get started on it. With that being said, time to get off the chair and on my feet!

@skull -congrats in the cigs (or lack thereof). I now buy Nicorette gum in multiple boxes when on sale. In fact, my real approach to nicotine is to get it in my system the safest way possible. For now, and maybe forever, nicotine is just part of my way of life. I almost look at nicotine as a very positive medicine for certain individuals. I have seen studies reporting its true benefits. It's the form of ingestion and mixture with other chemicals that make it so negative. Anyway, that is my justification and rationalization for my nicotine addiction. Last thought -Nicotine does play a roll in depression reduction and anxiety -or so say the scientists.

@Jaun -You have inspired me to get up off my arse and work on a project of many. Like you said, ONCE I GET STARTED, I feel great and tomorrow I will feel rewarded. Thanks.

Day 8 AF. Everything smoothing out. Gonna have a pretty eventful 8 or 10 days coming up but I am feeling really good about them.

regarding the kind words re: smoking, thanks guys- It's been up and down lately but I got some nicotene lozenges that do seem to help with cravings. They are kinda gross though but not as gross as cigs... LOL

More to the point though, I'm still AF and that's my biggest focus so I'm grateful for that.

Just checking in. Glad everyone's doing alright. The whiskey's calling my name from the kitchen cabinet, but Day 5 or 6 or whatever it is since last Wednesday.
