Abstinence Challenge
Day 13 AF.
Great job guys! YF, you are almost there!
I had the gasping for air thing last night. I woke up 2-3 times gasping for what I thought was my last breath of air. What's up with that? Ive read many posts about it, but thought I was immune...ha!
No cravings except for 2 guys named Ben and Jerry's.:durn:

Day 4 down. On to day 5. No problems at all yesterday. Drinking didn't even cross my mind. I woke up this morning and had the thought "It's as easy to not drink every day as it is to drink everyday." Not sure what I meant by that. I think that once I get on a roll, I just roll that way. I must add here -- that is because I am indifferent. If I were doing this any other way, I would be out of my freakin' mind and crawling out of my skin. With bac, it really is just a matter of getting a few days between me and the habit, and then the new habit of not drinking starts to build on itself. Ahhh. Feeling spacious about it all today.

Day 6 down. Heading to bed soon. I am at that point where it feels like my puppy died. I go through this every time I stop drinking. After watching the Gabor Mate YouTube video that Spirit posted, I feel like I have a better understanding of it. I've always said I felt empty during this time, and that is in fact just how he describes what drives the addict. I am trying not to "feed" the hungry ghost anything and just let it be. No extra food, no clothes, no hurried activity, no strenuous exercise. I usually just keep switching speeds, feeds, until I feel some relief. I am sitting in the emptiness and on and off it is quite uncomfortable. Hopefully it will ease. I would like to find the bottom of it rather than just run from it. Hope all is well out there with you all.

Abstinence Challenge
Hi All,
I am just over eight months AF.
I did take baclofen at first and I KNOW without it I would never, ever have been able to get this amount of time under my belt.
I have posted previously why I stopped taking it so I won't repeat that unless somebody wants me to write about it again.
I don't really get cravings for alcohol anymore, if I do they are very mild and up to now I have easily been able to distance myself.
What I firmly believe is that if I have one lousy drink the whole cycle will start again and I don't think I have the strength to go threw all this again.
Some people may ask 'well if baclofen worked for you why don't you keep taking it and have an occasional drink'? I can only speak for myself but while baclofen took away the physical cravings and even my emotional cravings to a large extent, alcohol was still there in the background calling the shots. I was still mentally obsessed with alcohol and that's why I decided to have a real effort at being AF.
As we all know making vows and having good intentions are the easy bit.
Since I made the choice to be AF I have felt at peace with myself for the first time as an adult. Now 52.
Each to their own but if I can offer any advice is to try not to drink while titrating up because you may miss your switch. However, if that was an easy thing to do none of us would need this site.
