Dosing down Topa
I'm at week 10 and have been taking 300mg Topa for awhile (what the book says, a few weeks? I forgot because my brain is mush) but really can't handle living in this fog anymore and want to get off Topa. I can't even do simple math and I feel like my work is really suffering. On the bright side I've fully gained control of my drinking so it's been worth it. My question is how fast can I really start dosing down. I don't want to do 25-50mg a week, like has been recommended by doc. My friend who is a doc said it can be done much faster. I'm also wondering if I should stay at a minimal low dose for a certain period of time just to be sure I've kicked this before I go off Topa completely. I don't want to dose down really fast and then go off it completely just to end up messing up all this hard work.

Dosing down Topa
Hi there - you can go down faster - as long as you are not at risk for seizures. It is only when that is why you are taking it that you are supposed to do down slowly. I would say (and this is JUST my opinion) that you could go down 100mg a week. I do warn you though - I was at 300mg which was the amount that I needed to get to the magic point. I too came off it - and ended up drinking again - and it just doesn't work as well second time round.
Good luck with it.....
SunHow simple it is to see that we can only be happy now and there will never be a time when it is not now....

Dosing down Topa
Curious to know how your tapering down is going? I am on week 5, and I am already worrying about stopping Topa. I already have no cravings and have been wondering if I should just hold steady at this lower dosage, rather than go up to the 300, and risk having to come down off of it. Although my brain is not mush (thank God, and sorry to hear it is for you), my vision is really a mess. I've been combing all the threads trying to find anything about people's success with STOPPING Topa. So far, unfortunately, it seems I have only found people who have said they have backslid after they stopped Topa, which is certainly not what I want to do.
Please let me know if you've found anything about this, or received any other feedback on other threads. Thank you, and best of luck!!!
