Campral and Baclofen Takers - Your Help Is Needed

lease:Please -if you have taken a combination of baclofen and campral, your contribution could potentially be invaluable -especially to us Baclofen only takers.

I recently came across a USA patent application for the combined use of Baclofen and Campral. I assume that they have developed a strategic method of issuing the two drugs to eliminate total craving and minimize the amount of Baclofen. In our little baclofen world this could be huge. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) we are not the ones making profits from this discovery. However, we are the potential benefactors and we know more than most the success of baclofen. Please review the following info and links:

Today, I found where a patent application (USA) has been filed for a mixture of Baclofen and Acamprosate. The patent application was filed on April 11, 2013. I am certainly no expert on patents or medicines but it indicates to me that they are applying for patent that would protect the use of the two drugs as a method for addressing the indicated symptoms.

This patent is filed by a very powerful group of individuals in France. The company name is Pharnext and is based in France.

The Official Patent Application is titled: "Baclofen and Acamprosate Based Therapy of Neurological Disorders"

Very interesting. I hope someone on here has experimented with this combination and can offer some input. As I am personally not able to tolerate high dose baclofen, but was tolerating lower doses pretty well, I would be willing to try an alternative approach that involves a low dose coupled with something else to drive it home.

This thread recently bumped by new MWO member On.Bac is semi-relevant. It looks like veteran MWO member Greg was experimenting with a baclofen and topimarate treatment about a year ago. However, I followed up on Greg's posting history and it sounds like as of a couple months ago, he's drinking extremely heavily once again. Bummer.

This doesn't appear to be alcohol related--at least not primarily. They're trying to treat/prevent neurological disorders like Alzheimer's and such. Alcoholism and alcohol withdrawal are just tacked on in a couple of places... as far as the patent goes, that part looks like fishing. Like, Gee, if someone ever finds that it works for that, then we own it, too. I might be being too cynical--but I didn't see a whole lot of anything on cravings--but it does look like this might have some neuroprotective properties in all kinds of cases, including alcohol withdrawal. And that would be pretty cool.

Maybe someone out here wants to give it a shot?

Anybody read this closely enough to see if there are suggested doses?

I agree with Stuck's assessment. Almost every mention of alcohol is pretty much copy-pasted:

"... neuropathies (for instance neuropathic pain or alcoholic neuropathy), alcoholism or alcohol withdrawal, and spinal cord injury ..."

It seems they have a hunch that baclofen + acamprosate will be effective in some combination against a handful of illnesses, and are just trying to get their foot in the door so that they'll be able to claim a patent on whatever treatments are eventually developed using that approach. Skimming through, I see language that says (paraphrased) "at doses which show no effects when using either drug by itself, the combination is effective" in a few places.

This thing is a giant wall of text. I wish I could say I was going to read the whole thing, but I'm not sure I have the patience -- or the ability to comprehend a lot of it.
