Fantastic you've reached indifference Heavenly D. There are lots of very experienced people here, I'm pretty new to this also, and they'll be along to help you out.

I would suggest though that just have a read through all the posts, there is a wealth of information here.

I think people have been in direct contact with Dr A but I read a post a wee while ago saying that due to how busy he is he just doesn't have time to answer a lot of his emails.

But again, don't worry as someone will be along to help guide you.

You appear to have reached your controlling dose where you are indifferent to alcohol. It is best to stay as high as you can for as long as you can cope with the side effects, in your case weakness.

This is nice open-ended advice because nobody really knows what is best for an individual.

When you decide to experiment with a lower dose, as everybody does sooner or later, go down very slowly. It takes quite a long time before the effect of a lower dose becomes obvious. Notice again how vague the advice is. Go as slowly or quickly as you see fit; drop 10 mg per day and wait a couple of weeks before deciding on the next step?

Just watch out for your relationship with alcohol. Good luck.

Baclofen hasn't been known to cause that kind of severe weight loss. This could easily be something else. Get a doctor's advice and be truthful about the baclofen usage.

Hi Colin and thanks for the pointer. I have recently been prescribed Citalopram 20mg daily and have read again the leaflet and side effects...Weight loss & lack of appetite feeling of weekness + confusion and not thinking straight hmmm. I know I am going to have to stop taking them but they help greatly I hope that doctor can suggest something else. I wont stop taking them straight away and will taper them off gradually & hopefully it will resolve these issues. My doctor knows I am on the Baclofen he prescribes 100mg a day for me, I am very lucky to have an understanding & willing doctor. He dose not know I top up the rest from my own supply though. Feel a bit daft as should of looked a bit further into it I just never made the connection. I thought it strange as the Baclofen was increasing my appetite. Not as worried now thank you I was pancaking as it is a dramatic weight loss. I will be more honest with my doc Thanks again

              Hi Celeste,

If you read around on the forum, there's a lot of valuable information to find. I doubt if it would be necessary to contact Dr. Ameisen to find the answers that you want.

Also, if you need specific information, just ask on the forum. There will be several "experienced" baclofen users that might be of help.

About the maintenance dose, Colin gave a good answer on another thread:

The received wisdom is that the maintenance dose is 1/2 to 2/3 of the controlling dose.

Also is there any way I can change the name of this thread from can I email Dr Ameisen to I am really worried about weight loss. I do try and read around on the forum but been dyslexic I do struggle to get round the site.

I don't think you can edit a thread name, but you can always start a new thread.

Again, if you need to have specific info, just ask and you will get your questions answered or pointed to a location where you can find more info.

For example, this is a valuable thread: https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...ead-38718.html

I do apologise, I deleted the thread as I felt it was necessary as to not mislead anyone due to my mistake. I felt that it may confuse any newcomers who may read it.
Thank you to all who contributed in sorting this problem out for me. Many thanks

                        HD,

I just saw this thread. I did lose weight when I started bac. I didn't like all the things I used to eat, and I had a hard time thinking of things I now wanted to eat. I lost about 10-12 pounds. I guess in retrospect I had nausea, but it was a different kind of nausea.

I can't see what you posted because you deleted, so if I can help just let me know.

Posting can be really nerve-wracking. I completely understand.

I lost some weight when I started baclofen, too. But it sounds as though your situation is pretty dramatic. I wonder if you've seen a doctor recently for routine blood tests? It's just a thought.

If it helps, I only stayed at my switch dose (320mg) for about a minute. I don't honestly remember how long, but it was less than a week. I went down too quickly. I really don't think going down dramatically is a good idea. I have also found that going down (or up) in small increments can make a BIG difference.

You can use the following contact form to reach Dr. Ameisen. It's in French, but it doesn't matter, as he'll receive the email. (I don't know why he took down the English version of his website. What a bummer.)

Baclofene - Olivier Ameisen contact - traitement alcoolisme | BACLOFENE - Olivier Ameisen

The first blank is for your name. The second is for your email address. The third is the subject and the fourth is the content of your email.

Good luck and hang in there.

                              Can I email Dr Ameisen

Hi all and thank you for your continued support. I am sorry I deleted the parts of the original thread; I was completely embarrassed about starting the thread and really wasn't thinking straight. Let me try and explain what happened with me & try and keep it going.
Yes I have had a dramatic weight loss from just under nine stone (I am a shorty) to below nearly 7 stone for a guy this was extremely low. Weight has always been an issue for me. And I have always been sensitive to medication.
For a while now I have been very pleased that I have been gaining weight well. Also my wife & family had agreed genuinely that I was gaining weight well. But lately friends and family were saying how skinny I was looking. All I could see was the muscle tone/weight gain that had come back over the last six months from starting Baclofen. So was shocked to hear I was getting these comments.
It wasn't till yesterday morning when I had a bath I could see it for myself & I was horrified
I have been drinking alcoholically since I was about 19. I think my switch for alcohol was around 150mg.

I kept going up as I wanted to see if it would work on my 20 year skunk addiction & yes it happened. I stopped smoking weed six days ago at 180mg and was so pleased.

This is where I went wrong.
I think I was so wrapped up in determination to make this work, after reading The Amazing Doctor Ameisen`s book - The End of My Addiction, I noticed that in his own story Ameisen stopped taking his medication for anxiety & depression whereas the other reference in his book the American business guy continued to take medication for anxiety & depression.
I have always had bad anxiety ever since I can remember so I decided to give them a try. I was prescribed Citalopram 20mg, 28 days ago. Even though I took the med as prescribed one each day I went a bit loopy on then.
I never noticed my weight dropping off, and neither the fact I wasn't eating properly. Until I had that bath & went in to an absolute blind panic and jumped on here looking for help. Which I got very quickly. Thank you so much Colin I couldn't see the woods for the trees.

My wife suggested going through the side effects of the Citalopram & the Baclofen and eureka there it was in the side effects for Citalopram weight loss, loss of appetite & going a bit loopy. Whereas the Baclofen had none of those side effect or anything that would last more than a few days.
I have stopped taking the Citalopram yesterday and feel so much better in myself but more importantly I have been able to eat.

I now realise that it was the weed causing the anxiety & probably the depression and am so glad to be free from it finally.
Strangely enough while chatting with the missis. I recalled seeing a drug councillor nearly 16 years ago when I was 19 -20 and in exactly the same position with the skunk. I was offered anti depression medication but the same happened so I came of them and stuck with the weed. I started drinking to help with anxiety and it all snowballed from there.
I so wish I had realised this 15 - 16 years ago I would of saved myself years of pain & anguish.

I am going to post this as a new thread also to resolve the continuity issue.

Thank you for my life back Dr Ameisen & thank you to the people here on MWO
