I used not to be so cynical, but I would suggest that the reason doctors are generally uninterested in baclofen is simply that it's not profitable enough.
My cure - baclofen @ 50 euros / month for 7 months - cost 350 euros. And none of that went to my local doctor, who refused to prescribe it to me. I suppose a long term fuck-up alcoholic has more little things going wrong with them over time, so the doctors have more to do. Weak immune systems, bones that are more likely to tumble down the stairs, brains that drive cars into trees after closing time - these are all wonderfully profitable and keep large sections of our society in employment. If everyone stopped drinking it would be a catastrophe.
Yes, even though two of my grandparents were doctors, I dare say they have become a rotten lot, for whom the Hippocratic oath is a cute relic of a bygone era. Michael Jackson didn't do himself in - doctors did - quite deliberately, for money. (Their only mistake was he died.) I know the cosmetic industry is another topic altogether but it is indicative of a deep corruption of the soul of the very men whose guiding principal is supposed to be Do No Harm. Increasingly European health programs are becoming Americanized so there is nothing for us to be smug about. Get your baclofen quick, before they ban it under some devious pretext....

Gosh I can rant like some silly old sod... I sound like one of those nutters who writes to newspapers saying the same thing every week. Oh well! Gotta have a hobby...

Did you read the article STP? The answer (or rather the problem) may not be with your local doctor at all. On the contrary, his/her hands are tied. (That reminds me of your very funny posts about your very helpful doc...A literal lol.)
