    Baclofen Sources

    I've been a member for along time and enjoy all the Threads immensely!! I started Baclofen last year but had to stop because of an impending vascular surgery. I'm complely healed now and would like to start the Baclofen Program again. I was wondering if someone could send me information on contacting Dr. Levin? Either an e-mail or phone. You can send it via "Private Message" if you prefer.

    Last year I was getting it from an overseas source and am leery about its quality. If I can't get a hold of Dr. Levin could you offer me some solid sources???

    Many members on mwo have contacted Dr. Fred Levin in the Chicago area for help. He is an Associate Professor at Northwestern University in Chicago and a practicing psychiatrist. He has prescribed Baclofen to patients for alcoholism throughout the US. His home telephone number is 312-642-5803. He can be reached between 7 and 9pm Central USA time at his home number, which is his preference. He is not much of an email user.

    An mwo member, Spiritwolf333, was an inpatient resident at Assisted Recovery Center in Savannah, Ga, where he underwent a Baclofen course of treatment under a doctor?s supervision.

    An mwo member, Sunnyvalenting, has reported that a doctor in Atlanta, Dr Tommy Richardson, is familiar with Baclofen.

    An mwo member, PbarE, may have information regarding doctors who treat with Baclofen in Austin and Dallas

    Arizona, USA

    An mwo member, JustJill, may have information regarding doctors who treat with Baclofen in Arizona.

    SF/Bay Area, USA

    An mwo member, Suneeleca, has information regarding a doctor in the Bay Area who is familiar with Baclofen.

    Dr. Lawrence Doyle of the Plymouth branch of Family Practice at Sutter Amador Hospital -- Laurence L. Doyle, NP - Phone & Address Info – Jackson, CA - Nursing (NP) was at one time responding to questions about Baclofen.

    Twin Cities, MN USA

    Dr. Mark Willenbring, a former NIH official who practices in St. Paul, MN with Allina Health Care, is familiar with Baclofen, although some of his public comments have been skeptical. It is not clear if he is currently prescribing. He can be reached at 651-241-5959.

    Oklahoma, USA

    An mwo member, redthread12, may have information regarding availability of Baclofen treatment in Oklahoma. You may be able to PM her for more current information.

    Los Angeles/SoCal USA

    Stuckinla has reported a lead for a doctor in Los Angeles who has prescribed up to 80mg Baclofen. You may be able to PM him for more current information.

    United Kingdom and Ireland

    Professor Jonathan Chick in Edinburgh has prescribed Baclofen and works with general practitioners in the UK and, apparently, Ireland. Here is his Internet contact information:

    It has also been reported in this forum that Dr. Susan Cooper of Fenwick Road Surgery, Giffnock, Glasgow, prescribes Baclofen for alcoholism and that The Royal Alexandra Hospital and the Dykebar Hospital in Paisley treat alcoholism with Baclofen.

    In Liverpool, an mwo member, Robbiel, reported that he was prescribed Baclofen through the Alcohol team (LCAS) at the Liverpool Royal Hospital.

    An mwo member, Longshot, may have information regarding Baclofen treatment in Ireland.

    Canada

    The Addiction Medicine Clinic of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto has prescribed Baclofen for alcoholism.

    Western Australia

    Dr George O?Neil of the Fresh Start Recovery Programme has been recommended as someone familiar with baclofen.       I don't want to invade the doctor's privacy, but you can get a recommendation for a doctor located in Vermont through the Foundation for Alcoholism Research located in Middlebury, Vermont. The foundation can be contacted at 802-758-2243 or info@alcoholismresearch.org. However, unless you live in sufficient proximity to Southern Vermont (including Western Massachusetts, New York's Capital Region, west central New Hampshire etc.) for regular appointments, this doctor will not treat you.

      Also, I should mention, in my experience, this doc considers baclofen a "third line" (a direct quote) drug to be used after the usual suspects (campral, naltrexone, topiramate, etc.) have failed, so unless you have already tried other therapies, I doubt he would be receptive to using baclofen as a therapy for alcoholism.

        Thank you for putting together this list! How helpful for everyone struggling to find support!

        To add to it, if someone in northeastern Washington/northern Idaho (Spokane/Coeur d'Alene area) is seeking a prescribing doctor, they should check out the Rathdrum Counseling Clinic.

        Sorry, I haven't 'earned' the right to post a url, but if anyone Googles, it will come right up.

        They are extremely affordable, kind, enlightened on Nal/TSM and Baclofen treatment, and also offer psychiatric evaluation for depression, anxiety, and other co-occuring disorders.

        They only offer outpatient services and have been my lifeline, from more than a year ago when I sought medical assistance for outpatient detox/withrawal and depression and managed 14 months AF, to a little over a month ago when a) my depression took a nosedive following a perfect storm of personal and work-related issues, and b) I relapsed and went immediately back to 2-3 bottles of wine a day. My doctor offered several treatment options and because of my depression, and because I've attempted abstinence/AA at least a dozen times over the past 8 years, "succeeding" (ha ha) for weeks to over a year over and over and over, we agreed that it was time to try something different. He suggested I read The Cure for Alcoholism by Dr. Eskapa, which I did the next day and started my Naltrexone treatment. That was three weeks ago. So far, so good, and I am also going to be working with a cognitive behavioral therapist as well.

        I am more active on the forum thesinclairmethod.net (my moniker there is writeratlarge) and if someone wants to ask me questions, they are welcome to PM me or visit my Weekly Progress thread there.

          Just wanted to Thank everyone for the responses! "Alky" I live in S.E. Wisconsin. So I guess Vermont wouldn't work. (But its a beautiful State) Its fantastic to see there are locations popping up around the U.S. that are offering Bac as an alternative. It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling that it does work!

            Being in Wisconsin, looks like Dr. Levin in Chicago might be the closest MD to you that we know of at this time? Though from reading various threads, it doesn't even sound like you need to see him in person, you can talk to him over the phone.
            Searching the threads for Dr. Levin using the search box or just google should give you all the info you need.
