Baclofen Saved My life, Waiting for the switch

I am familiar with a psychologist that was recommended by my Dr. who specialized in addiction. She works with many people who are taking Baclofen for addiction. It seems to me that this treatment is spreading as fast as it can considering its not an "approved treatment". At least there are forums like this and now Psychologists that are working with people in this treatment to better spread the knowledge "grass roots style". This treatment is not illegal. Lets just be thankful that there are "ways" to get help via Baclofen thanks to Dr. A, RIP. Unfortunately doctors are deathly afraid of treatments that are not approved by the FDA etc. Very few are courageous enough to look at the facts and proceed to help others. There is a list of doctors that will prescribe high dose Baclofen and they are helping thousands of people. My pharmacy and all pharmacies in my area are hip to the Baclofen treatment for addiction. They know whats going on when I pick up 300 20mg pills about every two weeks. There are several other people doing the same thing at the same pharmacy in every city now across the country and world. As much as I agree it is negligence, its the same old story of our bureaucratic society placing all the liability on those who could have the power "GP's, family doctors" to change maybe millions of lives. Of course you are not going to get any help to push a drug and a treatment that has no patent and isn't screaming "cash money". I believe they will have the power in due time. Its going to take some people getting public about this treatment and possibly even some laws need to change.

    Music,

You are in the right place if you are looking for a support group of people who are using Bac to overcome their addiction to alcohol. You will find this group extremely supportive and many of the senior members are an invaluable resource, they sure helped me out recently when I was in a really bad place.

Sounds like you are well on your way and you have been consulting with Dr. Levin, so just keep the faith.

    :welcome:

      Yo Music
Difficult to write that lot and frankly a bit difficult to read it!!
I took the trouble tonight and there is a lot that I can relate to. Interesting that you've been on this for a year and a half. I presume with Dr Levin.
Whatever, I also welcome you and will definitely read any further that you post.
Started Baclofen 3/9/10 Hit my switch at 250mg on 21/11/10 Present maintenance dose of 50mg : started drinking after 1 year, upped dose to 80mg and stopped: Tapered to 30mg, started 6 months of drinking, upped dose to 240mg to stop 12/7/12

Generally the blur of different ways to get high and how once into that scene, how pervasive it becomes. Unfortunately I can't say that I'm a rock star, I had my own company before I left England with quite a lot of cash flying around - it all went on entertainment!
I also used to get 'blackout rages', for which I would beat myself up about indefinitely I still do ( the beating up not the rages) but am trying to come to terms with my life.
I'm drinking nowadays, having tapered my dose down to 80mg. Not absolutely sure what future Bac and myself have.
Are you getting any counseling from Levin or anyone else? Might be the missing link to finding happiness in sobriety.
One of the hardest things about breaking addictions is the habit. I was able to stop heroin fairly easily by moving cities so that I didn't keep on running into junkie friends Can't do that with alcohol particularly in your business.
Not very helpful to you but sympathetic!
