I've been sober for about 2 1/2 weeks. Today is day three of 25mg naltrexone (starter pack, prescribed by pdoc). The first day of taking it at 4:30 and felt awesome. Did yoga and didn't want to drink at all. Yesterday, day 2, was a completely different story. I still didn't want to drink, but a couple hours after taking it at 3:00 I felt ridiculously high. I couldn't feel my arms or my legs, was incredibly dizzy and kept having to steady myself. That passed after about 4 or 5 hours. Slept okay, but today I woke up feeling like I was hungover as heck. Anyone else have that experience? Will it go away? I really like the way I felt on the first day, but today feels awful. Also, what are everyone's thoughts on what time of day is best to take it? Thanks so much.

I presume your doctor has prescribed the Naltrexone with abstenance?
I take naltrexone a different way, as per the Sinclair Method which involves carrying on drinking, with that method you take it 1 hour prior to drinking and over time cravings subside.
I am not sure if time of day matters if you aren't drinking on it however it's half life is 4 hours, meaning after 4 hours the dose is only half as much as it was at 1 hour. I'd therefore say take it close to the time when you usually get your cravings, that way you have maximum dose in your system.
Regards tingling, the most common side effect is nausea which usually subsides within a week or so.
Some people do experience success taking it the way you are, so hopefully you will too.I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.

Nal, after a few weeks, made me incredibly dizzy - I mean, horribly so. It felt like I was almost hallucinating or something, not a place you want to be when you drive, trust me. Also, when I did drink more while on it, I had terrible terrible nausea the next day. Definitely not a med that worked for me. Sorry. But people have had success with it.

I'll second UKBlonde's recomendation to read up on The Sinclair Method - it's a specific way to take Naltrexone that many people have found helpful. I use the TSM method with Nal with good results.
There's a support forum similar to this one, but nal/TSM focused, over on thesinclairmethod.com • Index page for more info. I for one use both bac and nal together.

newbie
Hi. I am a newbie. i have been taking the Nal for a week with some positive results. I expect to get the book today to start reading TSM. I have been a heavy drinker for over 25 years, so I don't expect miracles. I "expect" results since I am convinced this is going to work through hard work, a will power.:new:
