    HOLY BAC MAN!

    Greetings.

Felt a need to post this tonight after years of not posting.

My last drink was on January 10th, 2011. 2 and 1/2 years ago.

I began right out of the gate using Baclofen along with AA after rehab.

This post is not to deminish the great benefits I have received and the awesome support of AA. It's been a blessing.

However, I wanted to report a baclofen experience for those interested in trying it in conjunction with AA.

After 2.5 years AF, I recently decided it was time to go off the Baclofen. I began slowly working off of it 3 weeks ago. As of yesterday, I am down to less than half of the 75mg/day I've taken for that time.

Wow, lying in bed tonight, restless, can't sleep, my mind drifting to alcohol and anxiety coming over me. 1:30am and I went downstairs and took 25mg.

I immediately calmed down and feel better.

I don't know if it's psychological. I don't know if it is a crutch. I don't know if I would threaten my recovery if I went off.

What I do know is that baclofen, at least for me, has been confirmed as a miracle to help me in my sobriety.

I have never understood what my fellow AAers experience with their cravings. I thought I was different somehow because mine have never been that bad.

It's the baclofen helping along with AA. Tonight convinced me of it.

I almost feel guilty that I am cheating in some way but that's ridiculous. If baclofen can HELP me this much on this journey then, hell, I'll take the help.

    Cheers.

That's some great news to read this morning, Bunge! Not the restlessness, cravings, and anxiety last night. I'm sorry for that. Have you decided to stay on the Baclofen??

Immediately calming down is probably psychological. It takes about half an hour for me to notice any effects. But who cares? IT WORKS!

I regard baclofen as a crutch - without it I will certainly fall over. Does it matter how you describe it? Of course not. IT WORKS!

Yes, it's a miracle and Olivier Ameisen is a saint.

        Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I'm continuing for sure. No Side Effects for me.

2.5 years sober, lost 70 lbs., feel great.

Thanks to AA, the Fellowship, my family, Baclofen and ME!

        Cheers.

P.S. Seems River Pharmacy has TRIPLED their price for Baclofen(Lioresal). B@stards. lol

Going to post to see if anyone has recommendations where else to get them.

          Bunge,

Isn't baclofen something?! I think your AA and baclofen experience will be helpful to some. And Colin, I wanted to say congratulations to you with your baclofen experience but we really just take the pills and baclofen does the job.

I read your other post about Lioresal at River. Do you have any idea why the manufacturer raised their prices?

            Kronkcarr,

            Thanks.

No idea why Lioresal tripled. It's made in India and usually things don't triple in price from India.

                HOLY BAC MAN!

                Feeling better tonight. Just went right back to 25mg X 3 @ 8am, 3:30pm and 11pm.

                Indifference to alcohol already returned.

I feel bad for those in my small town AA group that find it hard to even see someone drinking on TV.

                Thanks for your comments folks!

India? I thought Lioresal was manufactured by Novartis. I thought they were European.

It had better not be some bullshit capitalist supply/demand crap (illusion). They control the supply, easily. Sure demand has gone up. If I were in their position I'd fight to see how cheap I could make it.

                    Hi LoOp,
I've been reading about the liquid Bac, and getting rid of unwanted side effects - especially drowsiness - sounds very appealing. I was told you're an expert on the matter. Where can I find it for cheap, dosage instructions included?

                      HOLY BAC MAN!

Hi Bunge -great news to hear. I find a calming effect within thirty minutes of my baclofen intake. The members of aa have helped so many of us. However, when it comes to science and sobriety, AA has a very difficult time. I think this is rightly so in that so many still secretly crave alcohol to some degree and just can bring themselves to think out-side-of-the box. Many still scoff at the idea that someday there might be a pill. All in all, they are truly wonderful people -just lost in traditions.

                        spiritwolf,

                        Yep, I'm with you.

I often think of approaching some about trying baclofen to 'help' them in this journey but always decide I better not.

I understand the fear of the AA establishment over it. It is often presented as 'cure'.

I don't want to be responsible for someone else trying it and relapsing because they research it and decide to drink again.
