    Baclofen withdrawal help!

Hi there, this is my first time posting and I'm afraid it's to ask for some help/ advice.

I am on 120mg Baclofen daily and have been for a long time, my baclofen is late this month and I will not receive it until around 6pm tomorrow night.

    Here is my problem;

Mon-thurs I had 120mg of bac as normal
    Friday I had 90mg
    Saturday I had 80 mg
Sunday I had 70 mg with my last 30mg taken at @ 2 this morning
    Today I have none left.

So after a rapid decrease from 120mg to 70mg within 3 days and now I am going to be around 30 hours with no baclofen at all, will I experience any of the horrible ' mind' withdrawals before tomorrow? That is am I in for a horrible night of terrible anxiety or worse hallucinations?

I have propanolol and although I understand it works or different receptors I know it can keep anxiety at bay, and also Trammadol.

I do have diarrhoea and slight nausea but nothing drastic. But my mind is racing away ahead wondering what could happen!

Does anybody know when baclofen withdrawal starts to show signs and symptoms on somebody who has been using it > 2 years? I'm sure I read somewhere that the longer you were on it, the signs and symptoms would not appear until after 72 hours....or maybe I am just wishing that is the case.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

And I'm not sure if it's relevant but I am taking 120mg per day and I weigh 280lbs so not sure if for my weight that's a small amount?

    Thanks x

You need to consult a doctor. Dr. Levin cautioned me that going off bac cold-turkey can lead to seizures. Do you have anyone around who can keep an eye on you in case of worst case scenario?
In the middle of my life's journey, I found myself in a dark wood, as I had lost the straight path. It is a difficult thing to speak about, how wild, harsh and impenetrable that wood is. Just thinking about it recreates the fear. It is scarcely less bitter than death, but in order to tell of the good that I found there, I must tell of the other things I saw there. --Dante, paraphrased

Yikes, my friend. I am not a doctor and do not have experience with that kind of abrupt tapering. If you're not doing too badly right now after 5 days of going down, I'm tempted to think you might be OK until tomorrow, but I would not want to be in your position.

All I would suggest is don't be alone--seizures are a possibility and if that happens you need someone to call the ambulance and explain that you need baclofen--there's no substitute, as you know. The other possibility is to go to an er or urgent aid. Did you have a script for bac? That would make things a lot easier. But even if not you should still be able to finagle 80mg or so...

Best of luck and let us know how you're doing.

Yea I have my partner but do you thi I could actually have a seizure going 30 hours without baclofen? And it's 30 hours at most. I was more worrying about the anxiety as didn't think the seizures occurred until at least 72 hours withdrawal from baclofen?? Maybe I am completely wrong? That's got me worrying now lol

Clay - I just boarded a flight so I do not have time to type the details, but I recently went through a similar thing. Check out my thread, the anxiety is probably caused due to freaking out about withdrawals.

          Hope this helps.

Maybe someone on the forums that has a supply lives near you and could help you out?

            Best of luck!

              How long is long?

72 hours is my experience but I was able to taper off fairly rapidly with just the odd 10mg top up when I felt really not right.

Whilst the withdrawl is very real, I think as above that the fear of it makes it seem much worse.

Long is over 18 months at 120 mg.

I think I am kinda freaking out about what could happen more than what's happening. Sometimes too much knowledge is a dangerous thing as I am expecting the worst from what I have read!

I don't really have any signs and symptoms except the diarrhoea and nausea and anxious about the next 18 hours. Things have not changed since I wrote the post.

Thank you so so much for your replys.

I don't even have any anywhere as have just looked in every place that some may be.

I keep telling myself it's only 30 hours but it's five days of dosing down quickly!

That's a long time however you weren't on a terribly high dose. Wish you'd posted sooner I'd have advised bigger drops with 10-20mg held back as top ups if you needed it.

Too late now but so long as you get some in 30 hours I have a feeling you could get through this and be ok.

Please try not to use Tramadol, it's opiate based and addictive to people like us. There is nothing for baclofen withdrawl other than baclofen itself.

                    Baclofen withdrawal help!

I have managed to get 80mgs from a friend who was given them for her back so she will pop them in when she finishes work in two hours. So presuming the next two hours aren't a nightmare I think I will be ok

                    Thanks for your help

                      Baclofen withdrawal help!

tramadol lowers the seizure threshold, avoid it doing any gaba agonist withdrawal which will also reduce the seizure threshold

On other sites that I have researched, non alcohol related, the patients were advised to reduce your intake by no more than 10% per week. Just a thought.

                          Baclofen withdrawal help!

Hi spirit, it was an error out with my control and I think I was freaking out a bit as there was a sad death regarding rapid baclofen withdrawal of a patient who had been admitted to the priory in our newspapers a couple of months ago.

Does anybody have any advice on how I go back up to my 120mg? Do I just take it as normal as if the past four days haven't happened?

                          Thanks

Hi -again. Opinion has it that you can bump up 10mg every 3rd day -but i am no doctor. I went 30mg for 3 days then 60mg for 3 more days and then the same schedule forward. Guess it all depends on your personal reaction.

You should just be able to go straight back to 120 without any need for titrating.

And I'm guessing you will be okay if you include the 80mg's that you received, assuming your baclofen arrives on time. Can you not go to an A&E and explain the situation. It is unlikely they can turn down your request for some baclofen, considering the potential consequences.

Get a back-up supply organised for future.
