    Hair issues

    Hey guys,

I know for a fact that ever since I started taking bac three months ago, my hair hair started getting grayer, faster. Also, and I don't know if I'm paranoid, I think I'm losing hair.

    Anybody experience this here?

    Peace,

    - FishCake

note: I also think it may be the result of a lot of anxiety caused by bac, not necessarily directly from bac.

Does one who suffer the mania or hypomania mood shifts with anxiety starts to get used to the treatment after a while? Anybody have an experience to share about this?

    Thanks!

There have been some posts in the past on this subject. I can't remember any conclusions.

Maybe it's just a coincidence. The only way to find out is to stop the baclofen. An unenviable choice or just live with an unpleasant side-effect.

Maybe it's one of the side effects that disappears in time. Hold the baclofen at the current dose or perhaps drop a little.

        Hey Fish-

Good to hear from you. I definitely observed my hair thinning and graying at high dose. I also experienced a pretty intense paranoia after about 2-3 weeks at my switch dose, which was extremely stressful. I agree that the hair thing was probably stress induced rather than directly related to taking baclofen. Another MWO member Caro, had a bout of paranoia at her peak dose and mentioned thinning an graying. Good times my friend!

I have gradually titrated down and both hair and mind have returned to their previous state. I'll take a few more gray hairs for indifference to alcohol cravings any day of the week. How are you doing anyway? Anywhere close to the switch yet?

I don't have direct experience with this but think Colin and Juan have good advice here. Just thought I'd say that IMO, a few more gray hairs (for that distinguished look!) are still a good trade for less drinking alcoholically... hope you agree... and best of luck to you Fishcake!

It could also be a SE of getting older.

My hair is also very grey and now I think of it, it went a lot greyer since on baclofen. But hey, I'm already 43 years old.

I just shave it off once in a while. You could dye it if you want.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

                  hahaha, I'm 28!!!

I'm doing ok, thanks for asking! ...Minus the hypomania followed by deep depression/anxiety oscillation. I titrated up all the way to 275mg/day, stayed on that dose until I started titrating down 22 days ago. I'm currently at 200mg/day now. I wouldn't say I reached indifference, for me the revelation was much more subtle: If it was the weekend, I wanted to get drunk, and I got drunk. But the next morning, with a slight hangover, I was not interested in drinking anymore. Huge change in my compulsion, now I think I just have the residues of the behavior I inherited from a decade of alcoholic drinking. It's beautiful, because I can change my behavior much more easily now that the chemical compulsion is gone.

About the "hypomania followed by deep depression/anxiety oscillation", the thing that it triggered went against what I was taking baclofen for. When in almost panic attack stages, and w/o any xanax to help (Dr Levin was about to prescribe some to me, but y'all know what happened to him), my only option was to drink alcohol, to calm my nerves, NOT OUT OF COMPULSION. I am not lying to you or myself, I solely drank sometimes alone during the week (not a lot, just a couple of beers) to calm down the anxiety.

I am seeing the head of psychiatry of Kaiser addiction center tomorrow to:
1/ convince him to prescribe high dose bac to me (w/o Dr L, I am lost w/o a legit prescription, not for supply, but for traveling and other administrative situations you can imagine)
2/ finally get some xanax for the rare, yet hard times with my mood swings

Wish me luck guys, I have a bunch of documents I found here on MWO to try to convince him. That, and my own testimony. It will be a tough one though, since I will have to explain the mood swings and anxiety SEs that went with it, and ask for xanax. But I'll give it a try.

                    Hey Fish-

Hope things went well for you at Kaiser. I was thinking about your tapering yesterday, 75mg in 22 days right? That's pretty quick. I've been doing 10mg per week (5mg every 3-4days) and it's not bad, but the anxiety is definitely present, even at this pace. My thinking is the closer I can get to the FDA approved 80mg/day, the better my chances will be in getting my doctor to work with me on this. I don't want to mess up my switch though, so I'm being mindful of that at the same time.
