Need help, want to try baclofen

Hi all. I think God led me to find this drug baclofen (long story) but my husband needs to try it for crack addiction, 30 year pretty severe addiction and our marriage and his life depend on the hope of him being free from this. I have the following questions:
    1. He has a herniated cervical disk for which baclofen is prescribed long term though not in high doses, so he may try a neurologist or pain clinic or orthopedic doctor. Or he may try a psychiatrist addiction specialist. Any advice? We are in Chicago area.
    2. Does the book by Ameisan tell what doses to be taken and on what schedule? We're waiting for it to arrive?
    3. Have any of you tried baclofen and found cure? How long have you been "indifferent" and free from cravings? What doses did you start off with and end up with? Have any others tried and at least dramatically improved? Any side effects?

If anyone can take the time to share their story and advice we will appreciate you helping

I don't think too many people here (if any) have experience with baclofen for crack addiction. So, sorry if we can't be much help there.

    1) an addiction specialist *might* be helpful, though you probably won't find too many who are familiar with baclofen.

    2) Dr. Ameisan's book doesn't really go into the specifics of dosing schedules very much. But basically you just add 10mg to the daily total every week. So for week 1 take 10mg every day, week 2 take 20mg every day, that sort of thing. You can also search here for schedules. https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...ule-52878.html

    3) There are quite a few here who have found indifference, and some (many?) who have not. TerryK has a thread here on the first page right now, about being indifferent for 3 years now. Final doses vary a lot, from 80 or 90mg on up into the 300s. Just depends. And yes, there are side effects but they also vary a lot.

Baclofen has been shown to be effective in treating cocaine dependence. See: Baclofen Holds Promise for Cocaine Treatment. There was also a cocaine study which led Dr Amiesen to further investigate baclofen for alcoholism.

However, I am not familiar with baclofen treatment for cocaine dependence myself and am not sure what the current best views are on the subject. To my knowledge, the subject has not been discussed much, if at all, on this board.
With profound appreciation to Dr Olivier Ameisen for his brilliant insight and courageous determination

you would be experimenting in uncharted waters, probably no one has used it for crack addiction. Like Cassander says, Dr A mentions it in his book that he became interested in Baclofen when a patient stopped using cocaine with high dose Baclofen. So there is some hope.

I can mention something about opiate addiction, I'm addicted to codeine, at least still physically. I still take the drug as i've only just stopped drinking. Codeine doesn't give me a high like it did before. It was the exact same thing that happened with alcohol. When i drank, the high wasnt as great, and when i went alcohol free, it hasn't been too hard.

I'm on 150mg of baclofen a day at the moment, but everyone has different "switch" doses, i dont even know if i've really hit mine. Each time i go up in dose the cravings dial down like a dimmer on a light switch.

Read Dr A's book, but also read about 1/2 of this entire forum to become knowledgeable on Baclofen. It's a serious drug with serious side effects that the book doesn't even cover. Everyone has slightly different experiences and you will still get some surprises.

If you do go down this path, it would be good if you could blog it, so that you can help other crack addicts if it all works.

I do recall that there was *someone* around here that kicked heroin with baclofen. That was before my time, though, and I never ran across the story specifically (and I've read A LOT of MWO). But it's definitely worth looking for.

Google seems to work as well as, if not better than, the MWO search field. So try googling "crack my way out forum" and that kind of thing. Never know what might turn up.

There was a man named PbarE who took baclofen after being addicted to crack. This was a couple of years ago and I don't remember the exact story. It went something like this I think. He'd already stopped using crack and was in a 12 step program. He believed his program was useful, but he was still craving. He started baclofen and did get fairly high in dose-160's or 180 or something. He felt it reduced his cravings, but maybe didn't feel a complete switch. He stopped taking it due to SEs. He then went to Mexico and took a hallucinogen that is supposed to help with addiction. He really thought that rocked. Last I heard he was going to 12 step meetings. You could PM him and ask about baclofen, or look up his posts.

I'm not sure about an addiction specialist in the Chicago area. There is a doc who's willing to treat patients of Dr. Levin if they see him in his office. I'm not sure if he's willing to start new patients on baclofen. I haven't met with him yet. I could PM you his name and number.

Well, I should clarify. I have heard of an addiction specialist in the area. I have not been able to talk to him, however. I'm not sure if he's using HDB or not. Also, he will only see patients who have a referral from another doctor.

Good luck. I hope you find some help for your husband. I can imagine how difficult it must be.

Do a search for a user called "Revolting Rich". He used baclofen for crack and was partially successful. In the end he stopped because of SE's.

He eventually successfully came off crack using ayahuasca.

I am pretty sure he will respond to an email through the site if you have any questions for him, or let me know and I can put you in touch with him.

I achieved great success with baclofen in treating SEVERAL of my addictions. This includes methamphetamine, cocaine, alcohol and various forms of opiates. It depends on the person I suppose, but with my own personal results I can definitely say that using baclofen to reach indifference toward any drug is possible. You just need to see if it works for you.

As far as I know, baclofen has "proven" to be effective for alcohol, cocaine, as well as GHB addiction.

If I'm not mistaken, crack is cocaine that is being taken by smoking.
Since it still is cocaine, baclofen will possibly be effective.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

Thanks for all the help, he has an appointment in a few days at a pain clinic, but not sure about doing the HDB and if anyone will treat him with that. I feel that he can get help, it's potentially possible to end all the hell I've been through because of him using drugs, and if he's right that he can't stop, then to end all the hell he's been through, but don't know how to get to the actual treatment. I know at the end God has ultimately already saved the day (we are Christians) but has anyone any ideas for us? We have even contemplated moving to Spain or looking into Canada if we can't try it here in US. But we even know a friend in Tennessee whose being treated with it, so maybe first go the route of trying to convince a doc here or close by. thanks for ur insights Any more is appreciated

Need help, want to try baclofen

i didn't use baclofen for my cocaine and speed addictions (they were before Ameisen's discovery) only for my alcohol addiction.
in the hypothetical case of me getting into those drugs again, i'd certainly try baclofen.

if the pain clinic won't be of help in getting a prescription, there's the option of online ordering. lots of people on this forum do it that way.

good luck to you and your friend
