    Buying Antabuse Self Medicating

If you GP already knows about your drinking Mlisa you should really already be getting them every once in a while.

I guarantee if you go to your GP complaining with pains in your right side acting like you don't really know whats gong on. (Liver area) GPs don't like it when they think your self diagnosing imo. 99% he'll more than likely sent you straight up to the nurse for your blood work. I'd be very surprised if he sent you away with taking blood work, its standardized practice. The NHS is weird. You get no where actually asking for something. You have to sort of manipulate your way.

First time I went to the GP in a semi DT state and my side was actually really killing me.... soon as I mentioned this it was straight upstairs to the nurse.

I use to think it was a big deal and maybe a hospital visit was involved. Its a 2 minute job wit the nurse (not sure what your surgeries like? I think most have a nurse as well as the GP.)*

It got to the stage I just made an appointment straight with the nurse... say my sides hurting and that I'm a heavy drinker.. she checks the records... sees its been over 6 months since my last and wham bam.... LFT there and then. My sister just does it now thank god since getting qualified. As said 2 minute job in my living room watching TV Its really not a big deal. I could really actually do it myself.

If I was to take half a tablet a week, surely that wouldn't be putting a lot of pressure on my liver? Can't imagine it's anything as bad as 14 bottles of wine & numerous beers?
      My thoughts exactly.

Does your sister take blood or does she have some kind of machine to do the LFT?
I've never had bloods. I've only been once with regard to my drinking & I was hoping he'd suggest some meds to help me, but I don't think I laid it hard enough on the line. He probably just thought I'd been pissed a few nights & therefore had decided I had a problem. Try 30 years of it.
Thanks for all your feedback, I really appreciate it.

Its basically a tiny syringe into your vein and 2 small vials of blood taken. 5 minutes tops. I'm not kidding when I say I could actually probably do it myself (If qualified) I told my sister just chatting last week (not even thinking she could do it) I was due one and had taken a panic attack last time. She said "why didn't you just ask me? I'll come up tomorrow and take it"

Go with the side pain thing. Just say its been creeping on and is getting constant and has you a bit worried. I 100% guarantee you'll have a LFT done. A GP won't let you go home without taking blood work if you've a drinking history and are experiencing pain in the "right areas" Its basic policy from what I gather if you've a drinking history. My sisters told me this herself.

Some might call it lying or being unethical but your just doing what needs to be done. You pay your taxes... go for it I say. I wouldn't personally pay for a private one (unless trying to hide something) which your obviously not.

Its messed up I know. I'd guess if you were to walk into your GPs office and say I think I need a LFT you'd probably be denied.

I first started getting blood work done about 5 years a go and now get it every 6 months. First time I really wanted him to offer it but was afraid to ask as my side was killing me. I told him this and instantly after taking blood pressure had me up to the nurse for blood to be taken. It put it down to being just like a dental check up now.

            FYI...

Life Extension (LEF.org) has blood tests you can order online, and the results come directly to you via email.

Thanks Samandkatharine. I'm in the UK though, so don't think I can use that service judging by the website.
