If you GP already knows about your drinking Mlisa you should really already be getting them every once in a while.
I guarantee if you go to your GP complaining with pains in your right side acting like you don't really know whats gong on. (Liver area) GPs don't like it when they think your self diagnosing imo. 99% he'll more than likely sent you straight up to the nurse for your blood work. I'd be very surprised if he sent you away with taking blood work, its standardized practice. The NHS is weird. You get no where actually asking for something. You have to sort of manipulate your way.
First time I went to the GP in a semi DT state and my side was actually really killing me.... soon as I mentioned this it was straight upstairs to the nurse.
I use to think it was a big deal and maybe a hospital visit was involved. Its a 2 minute job wit the nurse (not sure what your surgeries like? I think most have a nurse as well as the GP.)*
It got to the stage I just made an appointment straight with the nurse... say my sides hurting and that I'm a heavy drinker.. she checks the records... sees its been over 6 months since my last and wham bam.... LFT there and then. My sister just does it now thank god since getting qualified. As said 2 minute job in my living room watching TV Its really not a big deal. I could really actually do it myself.
