    3. The "switch" requires respect. It will not determine the course or quality of your life after you feel the demand to drink against you will will. Over-drinking it isn't the end. Probably. But it multiplies all challenges.
    4. Being among the first on this planet to actually walk through this door leaves the rest of our lives before us to discover the answers to so many questions that remain. It's more than likely that what we don't know yet is a tsunami, compared to the wave of what we know today, individually and collectively.

That is not an imperative to do anything. It's just what's happening. And I just wanted to make note. And say :wow:

JMum, don't worry about it. It knows just how to say things that won't get itself banned. Just step over it like you never saw it.

                My Dear whatever,

I think we've been using the wrong approach with you up to now. Some of the things you say make us angry, frustrated, and mostly sad.

You sound like a young person so I'll address you like that, as if you were my son, or my grandson. Sweetie, you are not helping yourself by your silly posts. You obviously have an addiction problem that you want help with. The way you are going about posting on this forum is not conducive to our helping you.

whatever, if you don't want to take naltrexone, topamax, or baclofen, that's just fine. If we can support you in whatever way you want to go, please let us do that. Can you talk to us in your true voice without all the silliness?

What possible difference can it make to your progress to constantly warn us about the dangers of drugs, or make fun of us for the path we have chosen? How can it help you to make fun of others, or to say nasty things like a bad boy in the schoolyard?

Don't you see that we feel sorry for you? Can't you let us support you without so much anger on your part? It really does make you seem very childish, and young.

I want to help you in any way I can. Will you just calm yourself and behave yourself like a good fellow? There is friendship here. There is information here. I would like to be your friend - a big sister if you want one.

It makes them feel good, it gives them a kick to hurt other peoples feelings.
They are addicted to that and will always operate anonymously or against people who weaker than them. In that way, they are cowards too.
But, unlike us, they believe there's nothing wrong with them and they don't need help.

It could be they are born like that, but most of the time somethong traumatic happened to them in their youth and now they're frustrated and try to take "revenge".
Possibly "whatever" is not the bad boy saying nasty things in the schoolyard, but he's the boy that was being bullied.

I'm sorry for whatever happened to "whatever", but that's still no excuse to annoy people who are having trouble enough to deal with their own problems.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

hey skull, thanks for the check in, im good, not drinking (much) and i plan on tapering the codeine further. I had one beer last night after watching captain phillips last night. Damn that movie was good, i was on the edge of my seat, really good movie. I finished it late so i had a beer to relax after the intense movie. Didn't feel the need to drink more. So i guess it was a good switch test, but in ways i made an excuse to drink and i remember what everyone said here about potentially ruining the switch by continuing to drink. Tomorrow im going to start antabus, just to keep any thoughts at bay, I'll continue that for 3 months or so and then hopefully ill be in a position to taper.

Other than that, just shitted off at work, so ill be looking for something new. I'm excited at the prospect at finally getting out of my current job and hopefully getting something closer to home.

As to the progress with opiates, I have tapered down to 1/2 the dose and feel i can go further, I have just been letting the post switch reality sink in before going further

I decided to take the plunge with antabus last night, i took 250mg. I'll probably just take it once a week. I'm scared as it is on this stuff, so i think once a week is all i need.

I went to a BBQ last night with the idea that having 1 beer maybe two would be fine. I was driving so thats all i could do and i didnt want to drink more regardless. I didn't end up drinking at all as the alcohol just wasn't appealing.

Hey Neo, glad to hear you're diving in with the AB. It really does wonders to keep us on the path.

One thought, have you considered instead of taking it once a week, breaking the pills in half and taking them a couple or three times a week? Like 125mg three times a week or so?

The reason I ask is because in my experience, and from some others I've read here, is that I find that when taken once a week, it's reeaaly easy for the creeping drinking thoughts to take hold and sabotage the next dose. For example, if I took AB on Monday, by Friday I was like "you know, I bet I can drink for the weekend, it'll probably be fine.. maybe on Saturday or Sunday." Then I'd drink and be back at square one.

If I space the doses out, I don't give myself the wiggle room that I would inevitably wiggle through.

Just a thought. If you decide to keep on at once a week, it may work well for you. Maybe consider this alternative as a Plan B if you find the same challenges I did?

                            Neo-

I don't know anything about antabuse, but good luck there. I did want to give you a belated congrats on your switch. You really had to keep pushing up the dosage, but you held it together and it worked! It sounds like things are improving on the codeine front, too. Great news my man. Keep up the good work.
